Bernie Sanders: Laughing All The Way Through The Media Black Out
Philip David Morton, Screenwriter, Journalist, Producer
................
"We don't take money from billionaires, we don't take money from corporations," Sanders said early in his speech. "and we have raised the largest amount of any candidate from single donations." The crowd cheered in response. In fact the crowd cheered many times for more than an hour as he hit all the points he's been speaking out for his entire career.
..........
Maybe it's because he talks about the elephant in the room. And not just one elephant. He talks about herds of elephants. He comes out of the gate talking about how the GOP cares more about the oil companies than the world they are going to leave for their children and grand children, how war should be the last thing we aim for in global affairs, how he's sponsoring legislation for tuition free higher education for college students, how he backs big bank break ups, how he has a plan to tax wall street. Yes, you read that right. The list goes on and you don't know if you should laugh or cry. You want to laugh because someone is finally making sense. You want to cry because you've become so inured to the possibility of real change in a broken system bought by the capitalist elite that you've forgotten the word 'change' could even be a box on your checklist.
And you know what's stunning? Outside only two local news trucks. That's it. You would think a populist phenomenon like this would garner some media attention. "Well, when 3 giant corporations own the majority of the mainstream and easily accessible media, and the candidate they aren't covering is calling out that type of corporate corruption...connect the dots," offers Adam.
Whatever the reason, it seems you're not going to hear about it on the nightly news. So keep reading blogs like this one, there's a real populist movement in this country and it's happening under the media's radar whether they like it or not.

(27,985 posts)I woke up in the middle of my night.
One thing that concerns me is that low knowledge voters still use TV as their main source of "information". I hope that once the first debate happens, the lamestream media is forced to cover him.

(45,251 posts)years ago, certainly fewer than eight years ago. And, they would be in the older group who are going to love his desire to expand Social Security, something Hillary surrogate, McCaskill, tried to use against him. Older people are also going to love his plan for free public universities, as will younger people. Older people are also going to get his goal of Medicare for all better than anyone.

(45,251 posts)Hence my call for us to get on social media. Which reminds me. I forgot to stay in the Sanders Group exclusively enough today. After a few forays into GD: P, I need a shower and a break from DU, so off to social media I go.

(19,326 posts)but I guess they "got the memo" when Big Ed was promptly fired for
covering Bernie Sanders honestly & fairly.
Early on, Rachael had some "Wow! Look at these phenomenal crowds and all that
enthusiasm" coverage of Bernie. Now all Rachael can talk about is Whether Carley Forina
gets to debate at the "adults table" in the GOP debates. I swear, she spent 1/2 her show
on this the past 2-3 nights.
Christ Hayes sometimes seem to venture close to giving Bernie a little positive mention,
but it's pathetically oblique and sparse at best.
I think these ^ two were our last best hope of getting ANY M$M coverage, now they've
gone into silent mode with the rest of the M$M pack

(5,927 posts)I thought those two would hold the line, no matter what. Sad. I was disappointed with Rachel when she didn't follow KO to Current. Either way, it's when I pretty much stopped watching MSNBC. I had a feeling it was being maintained with the hosts they had, but I guess the Comcast buy was the end. Oh and by the way FUCK COMCAST. Did I mention FUCK COMCAST?
99th_Monkey
(19,326 posts)and if I've learned anything yet about this primary election, ANY fucking
thing can (and probably will) happen.
i.e. some things simply can NOT be ignored forever, and I think Bernie's
surging candidacy is one of them.
Oh yah, and FUCK COMCAST!

(15,435 posts)this country elect so many, back then liberal but now Progressives all over the country. It has all but dried up, give or take a few here or there who came out for Obama. If we see this surge again and more and more Big Voices start talking like this... Bernie really DOES have a chance! Yesterday I think it was the head of Apple or some big name came out in support of Bernie.
So GOOD to see this rising up again!
