LOS ANGELES Dante Harris, the leader of a local flight attendants union, had a question for the 17,500 people inside the Los Angeles Sports Arena.
Did all of you make the trip out here on a Monday night because everything is going well for you and your family?
No! they shouted in unison.
Harris nodded in agreement and shouted back: Workers lives matter! ... Black lives matter! ... The truth matters!
Deafening cheers nearly drowned out Harris as he said: We can build a movement with Bernie!

(15,480 posts)Then came comedian Sarah Silverman, who earlier Monday had alerted her 6.67 million Twitter followers of her plans to attend the rally.
Bernie always seems to be on the right side of history, Silverman said, noting that he was a civil rights activist in the 1960s, supported gay rights in the 1980s and strongly opposed the Iraq war before most other Americans.
And I loved this from a reader in the article's comment section:
In 2010 I listen to Bernie Sanders' filibuster live on C-Span. It was riveting. I tried to read Clinton's "Living History" and I was bored to death.

(5,400 posts)I don't put much behind the endorsements from celebrities unless there's something to them. They're nice to get, and it's a nice gesture, but they're much more important when the endorsement comes from a person with a history of being a reasoned advocate.

(55,981 posts)is reluctant to even mention Sen Sanders name, Ms. Silverman's tweet reached millions. The Oligarch Tyrants haven't figured out how to shut down social media, but I bet they are working on it.

(12,471 posts)the "open" Internet. It's hurting them, and as far as I see it, it's only a matter of time before they get their way, unless we get Bernie, and others like him in the White House.

(55,981 posts)While Senator Sanders is speaking with thousands, 28,000 in Portland, 4,500 in New Orleans, 8,000 in Dallas, 10,000 in Madison, 11,000 in Phoenix, 15,000 in Seattle, and an estimated 28,000 in Los Angeles, his major opponent is having tea with the 1% for $2,700 a cup. For a speaking fee of $200,000 Clinton told Goldman-Sachs that bashing bankers was unproductive and foolish.
This is a movement.
The people are ready for a change. Obama promised a change and he delivered a change of Party in the WH and little else. The NSA/CIA Back Ops didn't change, killing in the Middle East didn't change, Wall Street domination of our economy didn't change, fracking our water supplies didn't change, the quest for corporate control via so-called Trade Agreements didn't change, the lack of condemnation of this countries war crimes incl torture didn't change, etc. And it appears that Clinton is happy to continue with the status quo.

(18,791 posts)The only good thing wer that it was front page and had pictures.
The article was the usual talking points...he cn't win the nomination, he's too liberal, he's a "socialist"...blah, blah, blah.
I need to do a Letter to to Editor...hopefully they will get thousands of letters to correct their story.

A friend of mine is a teacher in rural Arizona (one of only 2 returning from the previous year, that should tell you something about Arizona, where we used to be able to say at least we aren't Mississippi, but alas no more because we are now dead last...but I digress)
When I mentioned to him several months ago that I might be supporting Bernie, he said: "but he can't beat Hillary". Then as he saw the numbers show up for Bernie in Phoenix, his mind began to change and it became, "yes, but can Bernie really beat the Republican candidate?" Fast forward to the Republican Clown Show/debate and it's become "hmmm, I think he can." Voila, new supporter.
That's where we are now. People who don't pay much attention are seeing these crowds and wondering.
Let's help them.
