Hawaii Democrats packed polling locations in Saturdays presidential candidate preference poll.
Leading candidates Vermont senator Bernie Sanders and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton went head-to-head for Hawaiis delegates in a race thats recently tightened.
The presidential preference poll took place at several locations across the state, with Hawaii residents waiting in long lines to eventually make their selection. Voting began at 1 p.m.
Organizers say the turnout was even larger than expected so large, in fact, that potential Oahu voters were reportedly turned away when polling places in Aiea, Kapolei, Pearl City, Wahiawa, Waianae, Kahaluu and Mililani closed between 1:30-3 p.m. It left them upset that they werent forewarned about the closing times.
Some arrived at their polling places as much as two hours after voting began.
They were closed, said Jake Anderson. I just showed up 15, 20 minutes after they closed and a couple other people showed up as well, and I really wanted to vote.
To the question as to when the preferential poll would close Saturday, the Hawaii Democratic Party website states that:
There is no official end time. Polling will begin promptly at 1:00 p.m. It will continue until all members present have cast their vote. We advise you to arrive before 1:00 p.m. to ensure you are in line and will be able to vote.

(17,705 posts)We all got here early or on time. We were supposed to let everyone in line at 1:30 vote. We stayed and made sure everyone who arrived by 2:30, an hour and a half later, could vote. There was nobody else in line. We took all the voters.
If braddah wanders in an hour late, does he really expect us to keep all the old folks, kids, working people waiting around until he may drift in? Late?
Come on!

This is not the continent. We let everybody in line vote before we started our precinct and district elections.
