More than 200 ‘Run Warren Run’ events planned for Super Bowl weekend

The “Run Warren Run” campaign, comprised of members from the groups MoveOn.org, Democracy for America and Ready for Warren, is planning more than 200 “organizing house parties” in 46 states, Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico and Guam to try to develop ideas for how they can convince her to run.

Elizabeth Warren 2016: Thousands Urge Democratic Senator To Run For President

Thousands of Americans across the country are gathering at events this weekend to urge Democratic Sen. Elizabeth Warren to run for the White House in 2016. Supporters from several political organizations are hosting hundreds of events in 46 states plus Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico and Guam to help draft the Massachusetts senator into the presidential race, according to a press release from MoveOn.org Political Action, a federal political action committee.

...If Warren launched a 2016 presidential campaign for the Democratic nomination, she would likely face former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, who has all but announced a run and is the presumed front-runner. Although the two female politicians are cut from the same Democratic cloth, Warren has disagreed with Clinton on a number of issues. The anti-Wall Street proponent slammed Clinton in her 2003 book for switching her position and voting for a bankruptcy bill in 2001 that makes it more difficult for credit card holders to renegotiate debt.

"As first lady, Mrs. Clinton had been persuaded that the bill was bad for families, and she was willing to fight for her beliefs,” Warren wrote. “As New York’s newest senator, however, it seems that Hillary Clinton could not afford such a principled position. ... The bill was essentially the same, but Hillary Rodham Clinton was not.”

Many left-wing Democrats have encouraged Warren to challenge Clinton in a 2016 run for the White House. Nearly 300,000 Americans have signed up in just over a month to support the "Run Warren Run" campaign, which is backed by MoveOn.org Political Action, Democracy for America and Ready for Warren, according to the press release.

The organizations cited Warren's leadership style and advocacy for working and middle-class families as driving forces behind the movement. Those who attend one of the 224 organizing house parties on Saturday and Sunday are expected to discuss ideas on how to convince Warren to enter the presidential race, according to the press release.

5. Although Clinton is way ahead in the Iowa polls, Elizabeth Warren is doing very well

especially considering that we are told repeatedly that she "is not running. Get over it."

The Des Moines Register is the newspaper of authority in Iowa if I remember correctly, and it states:

Fifty-eight percent of likely Democratic caucusgoers view her favorably, compared with 11 percent who have negative feelings and 31 percent who are unsure. She's the first choice for 16 percent of likely caucusgoers.

A draft effort by liberal groups appears to be raising Warren's profile, and the people who are discovering Warren generally like her, but her seriousness as a presidential candidate remains unclear. She has consistently said she is not a candidate for president, even as she's been coy about whether that could change.

If she did get into the race, Warren would be a viable competitor in Iowa, Link said.

...This Sunday, just hours before the Super Bowl, more than 20 people trickled into a windowless basement room of Washington, D.C.’s Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library. Like more than 200 other meetings that convened across the country through Run Warren Run, the group strategized how to convince the Massachusetts senator to say yes.

“I’ve heard questions before, like, ‘I heard that she’s not running,’” one of the organizers, who asked to go only by his first name, Carl, said. “But they all say they’re not going to run before they run.” For many in the room, it’s Warren’s hesitance to self-promote that has won her so much respect.

Though the organizers asked participants to avoid trash-talking Clinton, Carl opened the meeting by calling for more than “a coronation” in the Democratic primary. Participants said that the sense of Clinton’s inevitability was a threat to the democratic process, and described Clinton as “Republican lite,” “in the pocket of big business,” and “completely unacceptable.” Zephyr Williams, a graduate student at American University, explained her wariness with establishment politicians. “I can imagine it’s difficult to avoid selling out when you’ve been in politics for as long as Hillary has,” she said, underlining what many in the group saw as Warren’s key strength as an outsider to politics. Others criticized Clinton for her hawkish foreign policy and support amongst Wall Street bankers.

Participants praised Warren as a “fighter” for the middle class, waging war against Wall Street even at the expense of her own party. Many progressives cheered for Warren when she scuttled President Obama's renomination of former Lazard banker Antonio Weiss to a top Treasury Department post. Warren's bill to help students refinance their loans, which was blocked in the Senate in September, also placed her on the radar screens of many young Democrats. Part of the Run Warren Run's strategy is to raise awareness of the senator, since many voters aren't as familiar with Warren as they are with Clinton. "To know Elizabeth Warren is to love her," said one meeting attendee.

So far, polls have shown Clinton far outpacing any other Democratic challengers in the polls, and Politico reported that the frontrunner is considering delaying her campaign, since her campaign sees no serious contender in the ranks. But in September, a WSJ/NBC poll found that only 43 percent of voters viewed Clinton favorably, compared to 41 percent who had negative views....
