text, sigline, etc. or how about just which package DU uses so there is a starting point? I know that technical help is so 90's, but a simple FAQ would be nice.

OP
I was afraid that this was the case. I tried HTML, XHTML, php, and bb before putting this up.

(8,543 posts)1. A while back I started a thread listing the HTML tags that work on DU3.
Unofficial DU3 Basic HTML Reference Lookup Table
The admins wrote this software themselves so there isn't going to be a reference on the web about it. It seems that only tags they allow will work, the software doesn't pass on any old html tag within [ ]. I think I have all of them listed at that link, but I might have missed something - or they may have added more since my last update.
The good news is that you can do inline styles with a [div] tag (or even with a [font] tag). So there are a lot of possibilities for formatting if you know (or are willing to learn) CSS. A great reference for that is w3schools.
There doesn't seem to be a way to format the About Me portion of one's profile. A while back I tried various ways to insert a line break in the text with no success.
Signatures can be modified, but the catch is that double quotes are turned into html entities - therefore they won't work when used in any code for a signature. The workaround is either to omit any spaces and not use any quotes, or use single quotes (which seems to work for major browsers).
Your best bet is to try various ways to format something and if you get stuck, see if there is a thread in here or Meta about it. If not, start a new one - usually someone will show up with an answer - often the correct one!

I have your link bookmarked now, though. Thank you.
