Wisconsin State Legislators Introduce 'Revenge Porn' Bill

Wisconsin is one of a handful of states considering this kind of legislation. The bill makes the nonconsensual distribution of nude, semi- nude, or sexually explicit images illegal.

State Rep. John Spiros, who sponsored the bill, said the revenge porn problem is becoming more prevalent and the bill is needed to modernize current law.

“Consenting to an image being taken is not the same thing as consenting to an image being distributed,” he said. “Currently, Wisconsin law only protects a person who did not know or consent to the image being taken, and this needs to change.”

However, state Rep. Fred Kessler, D-Milwaukee, is concerned the bill is too broad and might restrict people's freedom of expression by limiting the creation and distribution of fine art.
