i am the WORST parent EVER. just shoot me.

put me out of my misery, lol.

son had a horrible break up, i have talked about it. he has the nicest girl, now. they have been going out a while. i see her often.

both girls are cross country, different teams. the new GF, erica... won. by a long shot. only a sophmore, and on varsity... and won. by a long shot. looked good and strong. traitor i was, i cheered her on. and used the right name.

(you know where this is going)

met the father today, and had only met erica's mom once. after son ran his race, varsity, so right after the girls varsity, we are gathered talking. i said

haley did so well, she looked so very strong. and i talk and talk, until.... OMG

WTF??? i looked at the parents

erica, i mean erica

look at son

erica

shoot me now.

(erica was NOT there yet. woooosh.)

leaving, i see erica and yell... bye haley. (she didnt hear me). switch to .... bye erica. she turns, huge smile, and waves

erica erica erica erica erica erica erica erica erica erica erica
erica erica erica erica erica erica erica erica erica erica erica
erica erica erica erica erica erica erica erica erica erica erica
erica erica erica erica erica erica erica erica erica erica erica

all the way home.

ERICA.

i am the worst parent, ever. i am so scared to death. i feel cursed i will do this again. how do we fix our brains so this never happens again.

I have remained online friends with the most serious of my youngest son's girlfriends and occasionally I will mention something about her, not because I mean to but because I still associate him with her to some extent and she is my friend. EGADS, it sucks. It truly does.

You are not the worst only one of the many.

Or I'll forget names I've known a while, which can be bad as well. I constantly call my oldest grandson by my sons name.
-- with a quick fix, sure but I don't know why I do it.

They'll be ok, and this will end up a cringe worthy memory; eventually it'll even be kinda funny, or just forgotten. Hang in there

Maybe it was nerves?

What has you thinking of Haley again? You need to stop thinking of her so you forget that name... I'm glad Erica didn't hear you... but you saying it wouldn't matter a fraction as much as if your son said it, so I wouldn't worry too much about it.

And be ultra careful if you have a glass of wine.

Don't worry, the mother of any son would empathize....it happens.

sister's former boyfriend's names, our names, etc. It seemed she would start on the list of names and have to say all until she got to the right one.

my then husband (her step dad) could never keep up with the boyfriends' names - he was always "one behind". The problem was he'd call them the wrong name so often, that the daughter would do it, too. Talking about killing a relationship! lol... (Not that they'd last that long in middle school anyway.)

By the time you get "erica erica erica" down, it'll be "hannah or emma or lexie". It happens, just call them all "hon".
