(57,349 posts)I'm not big on celebrity endorsements but this is a good one for Bernie, K & R!

(35,619 posts)Sarah Silverman introduced Sanders in Los Angeles.
Killer Mike introduced Sanders in Atlanta.
But I haven't heard of any celebrities introducing Sanders in Iowa.

(24,411 posts)but I don't know that it would make much difference in Iowa. In fact, I tend to think that Iowans look at celebrity schlepping as a bit gimmicky. We take this process pretty seriously and we tend to balk at tactics like that. We're pretty boring that way!
There are exceptions. Oprah's endorsement/event for Obama was extremely helpful. She's in a league of her own, though--and she was a transformative person who was giving testament to a transformative politician. So, it made sense.
I could see a Mark Ruffalo getting involved to endorse Bernie's environmental policies/stances. That would make sense.
Hillary had Katy Perry open for her at the JJ dinner and do a concert. Hillary's crowd was the same size as Bernie's crowd. I don't see it having a difference-making impact.
Stuff like that can backfire in Iowa--and make you look desperate. But I do get what you are saying! Bernie is drawing 2,500+ crowds now in Iowa. His crowds keep growing and growing and growing. The peak caucus season that happens in the latter two weeks of January should be AWESOME!! I think he's become the celebrity!
Bernie may want to check into renting some Iowa stadiums or indoor arenas!

(35,619 posts)Maybe an event which had 100 people would have had 2500 with celebrity help.

(19,537 posts)... who is from Iowa and even attended many Iowa basketball games when he was married to Demi Moore earlier. Perhaps target getting him to endorse Bernie as is being done on this page:
http://www.betterworld.net/quotes/EndorseBernie/endorse2k.htm
His new wife Mila Kunis though is a Hillary supporter now.

(4,558 posts)There goes that meme since Susan has a net worth of over $50 million.
She supported Hillary's opponent for her New York Senate run.
She supported Barak Obama in 2008.
She's made it apparent that she doesn't think much of Secretary Clinton.
She's a stellar actress. She's an incredible activist, and overall one hell of a wonderful person. BUT... this is hardly either news or shocking.

(50,254 posts)Oh, and Bernie has NOTHING in common with Ron Paul. Ron Paul's politics are driven solely by greed and bigotry. Bernie's are driven solely by the common good and total opposition to all forms of bigotry.

Will the phrase "voting with your vagina" earn alerts around here? Guess we'll see...
I'm off to see what Tim Robbins is up to!
(Yes, I know there's no connection there anymore, and I've heard he's not as outspoken anymore, but "Cradle Will Rock," y'know?l
Back to Sarandon: Fantastic on her!!

(49,387 posts)Like millions of others worldwide, was against the invasion of Iraq. The Cheney/Bush/Perle/ Wolfowitz/PNAC crew worked overtime putting out false information about Saddam's threat to the U.S..
It's only natural that certain congress folk would vote no on any hint of a war no matter what evidence was put before them.

(6,280 posts)... based upon the criteria his supporters have framed him with. She's a 1%er, unless, I suppose, one believes she is a better human being then say, Salma Hayek?

... makes her less of a good person than a multimillionaire? The more money one has, the worse one is, and the less one has, the better they are. There is one hell of a long gap between poverty and multi millionaire status. So, given those guidelines, Susan Sarandon is hardly what Sanders supporters would deem a very good person, and Salma Hayek would be one of the worst. Strange logic.

(3,795 posts)Very few billionaires would support Bernie Sanders. And there's a reason for that.
quickesst
(6,280 posts)... Again why is Susan Sarandon a better human being then Salma Hayek? It is obvious that you measure the worth of a human being by the wealth they have. By your logic the worst criminal in prison would be a better human being than Susan Sarandon.

(3,795 posts)I believe that something happens to people when they amass BILLIONS of dollars (or, perhaps, only a special type of person is able to amass billions of dollars in the first place).
By the way, science has demonstrated that as an individual gets more and more wealthy, their empathy tends to be lower.
quickesst
(6,280 posts)'No. That is NOT my logic.".

(11,945 posts)Her bio reads like a Hillary wanabe's dream:
Since her appointment, Ms. Sarandon has helped raise awareness about UNICEF-supported child development and education programmes in developing countries. On mission for UNICEF, she participated in HIV/AIDS youth advocacy events in the United Republic of Tanzania, and met with women and girls who were victims of gender discrimination in India.
And like any woman of good sense and high integrity, she LOVES Bernie!
