(3,649 posts)There have been dozens of bills like this voted down over the years. Everybody knew Obama would veto one of them if it should pass. Nobody expects Obama Care or Planned Parenthood to be defunded so long as a Democrat is in the White House.

(23,720 posts)as HRC did between Oct and Dec 2007 when she reached her peak. It appears during this time and the first 6 months of 2008- Hillary didn't give two shits in regards to just about anything as a Senator. I guess she was just bored?
She should have been there and not come up with reasons for not voting on much of anything at all. To quote one of her most ardent supporters- "Waste of her time or not, she was getting paid to vote for or against legislation."

(67,782 posts)....has only missed a few votes. Unfortunately the chart covers just five weeks this year and the Sanders percentage during that period is MUCH lower than presented.
Funny how Sanders supporters throw out false facts to attempt to discredit his opponent and prop their candidate, but when the fallacy of such "facts" is exposed it becomes "yeah but, yeah but".

(24,411 posts)Why is this a big deal?
Do you not think that Bernie assessed the situation, knew what the outcome would be--and continued campaigning--knowing full well that Obama would veto anyway?
Sanders' support of Obama has been clear. He has described the ACA as an important first step and he has praised Obama for the progress he's made.
What you are suggesting, that this is for "political" reasons, is baseless hooey.

(14,255 posts)http://www.powerlineblog.com/archives/2015/10/democrats-will-have-a-hard-time-criticizing-rubios-voting-record.php
Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama both had far higher rates of legislative truancy while they ran for the White House in 2007 and 2008.
A DailyMail.com analysis of Senate roll call records found that Rubio has missed 44.6 per cent of his votes since April, the month when he launched his Oval Office bid. That includes a 53.8 per cent absence rate in the third quarter of 2015, from July to September.
In the same quarter of 2007, as he frequently left Washington, D.C. for the Democratic primarys early voting states, Obama missed 56.3 of his votes.
The final quarter of 2007, leading up to the Iowa Caucuses and New Hampshire Primary, saw the future president post even more dismal numbers missing 89.4 per cent of his opportunities to shout aye or nay.
Clinton, in hot pursuit of Obama for the Democratic presidential nomination, missed 83.5 per cent that quarter.
Throughout the months he was running for president in 2008, Obama skipped 64.3 per cent of his votes as an Illinois U.S. Senator. Clintons record was worse still in 2008 a 68.4 per cent absence rate through her withdrawal from the race on June 8 of that year.
It is a matter of record, even if you don't like the source for whatever reason.
Bernie did not give a speech promoting Bush's Iraq war, not did he vote yes for that.
Would like to mention that nothing Bernie does, did, or will do in the future would make me a Hillary supporter. So, wasted effort. And - last reply to you, the usual thread-jacking is incredibly boooooring. 'bye!

BlueCaliDem
(15,438 posts)I don't think he's in it to win it. Maybe he did in the beginning, but the numbers don't look good for him, so now it's becoming more about him and his popularity than anything else, securing - in stone - his privileged, well-paying job as a U.S. Senator.
Because why would he embarrass his minority outreach manager when the latter wrote an apology letter to #BlackLivesMatter and Sanders denounced it the next day? Why would he campaign on women's rights and health care reform but then skedaddle when Republicans pushed through a bill to repeal ObamaCare and defund Planned Parenthood? This was the golden opportunity to underscore the credibility of his campaign rhetoric! Why sabotage it? And I can't believe Sanders doesn't knows this.
So why is he running for the Democratic Party's presidential nom if he's at the same time taking actions to sabotage his chances??

(146,345 posts)campaign season. It's expected, really. That vote didn't really matter anyhow. President Obama will simply veto the stupid bill anyhow. I wouldn't criticize a presidential candidate for missing a vote like that. Candidates have to be out on the stump. I'm a Hillary supporter, but I'm not bothered by this in any way.

(30,439 posts)The ACA has been one of the biggest issues since Obama's election. It has helped millions of Americans get coverage and the Republicans have done all they can to destroy it. They even shut down the government because of it.

(15,438 posts)the very issues he's campaigning on, this was an important vote for him to stick around for and vote against.
I am deeply disappointed that he hadn't. It's the same blunder that he made when he embarrassed his African American outreach manager when he wrote an apology letter to #BlackLivesMatter and Sanders immediately dismissed it saying he doesn't apologize, and that the letter was sent without his knowledge or permission.
