Barack Obama's 2008 margin in California, D+24.03, was better than Lyndon Johnson (1964) and Richard Nixon (1972) when they won their elections nationally by D+22.58 and R+23.15. (They underperformed in Calif. within 5 points statewide relative to national.)

That D+24.03 was 16.77 above the national result of D+7.26.

Now there is no saying about a trendline, but if Obama gets re-elected and outperforms his 2008 popular-vote margin, I'd suspect he'll hit 60 percent of the statewide vote in California. That would mean he once again carries the state by more than 20 points.
