The nominee:
It's not a preference. It's not an endorsement.
It's a fear of Hillary and the knowledge that she is #45.
Wake up!

(45,074 posts)This makes me happy, very happy that they ignored Bernie and focused on her.
They won't see the Bernie bomb until it hits them because they were looking in the wrong direction.

(92,190 posts)He has been getting a lot of attention, and crowds, plus he is getting media attention. O'Malley, is kind of in the shadows, but it seems his campaign is starting to do more aggressive campaigning which should increase his visibility.

(7,865 posts)It is hard for republicans to get excited enough to turn out to vote against someone they aren't familiar with.
Bernie very clearly excites the base and dampens Republican turn out. What could possibly be better?

(12,504 posts)I would think leaving a Dem candidate alone, letting them slide under the GOP "nasty radar" would be all the assistance any candidate would need.
Just imagine the wonderfulness of Hillary's campaign, if a Republican ignored her existance? I think you are trying too hard for some sort of political reverse psychology.
sufrommich
(22,871 posts)other convoluted explanation is wishful thinking.
kenfrequed
(7,865 posts)It gets her the nomination. They want her to win the nomination because they think she will be easier to beat.
The GOP is gunshy about surprise populist candidates that seem to come out of nowhere after Obama.
When they thought Bernie was just going to be trouble for Hillary and make the road to the nomination bumpy but inevitable they were more than happy to have some of their pundits name drop him. Now that he is a fast growing factor it is deja vu all over again.
And the candidates do not want to mention a candidate that most of their base has never heard of. The hard right base is still frothing about the various bullshit scandals that Issa and the GOP rat-f#@& squad pumped up to use on Hillary. Hell, GOP Hillary hate is multi-generational. In their pantheon of opposition bringing up Bernie Sanders is like bringing up Anton Levay rather than Satan.
Sheepshank
(12,504 posts)Not only about Hillary but her aquaintances. Then there was the consistent slam aout her relationship with Obama. There was nothing there that was about giving anything to Hillary on any sort of imaginary platter.
kenfrequed
(7,865 posts)The opposition always positions strategically to both highlight their own existence and pump up the candidate or candidate's they prefer to run against. Giving a jab to your preferred general election opposition is practically a standard in races like this.
Stop being intentionally obtuse.
Sheepshank
(12,504 posts)She was jabbed over and over. I saw absolutely no evience of pumping her up.
In fact, with Bernie's name not being slammed, if there was any pumping, it was Bernie.
Yeah, I can see this conversation is a big waste of my time. You aren't even interfacing with how basic election strategy works.
Clearly being a booster for Hillary is all you are doing without concern for discussion.

(2 posts)Never have I noticed so much corruption in the media, to flat out ignore a very popular candidate who has pulled larger crowds than anyone else so far... Drives me crazy. But for the first time today I saw a Bernie bumper sticker on someones car, and that gave me some hope. Everyone has to start chipping in to get his name out there more. Buy a tshirt, bumper sticker, whatever. Every little bit helps. Heres a few things I found on Ebay I liked. Got a shirt plus a few bumper stickers.

Racetrack owners, bankers, and chicken kings: Meet the ultra-rich bankrolling the Bush and Clinton dynasties. A special report by Vocativ and The Daily Beast.
For some wealthy donors, it doesnt matter who takes the White House in 2016as long as the presidents name is Clinton or Bush.
More than 60 ultra-rich Americans have contributed to both Jeb Bushs and Hillary Clintons federal campaigns, according to an analysis of Federal Election Commission data by Vocativ and The Daily Beast. Seventeen of those contributors have gone one step further and opened their wallets to fund both Bushs and Clintons 2016 ambitions.
After all, why support just Hillary Clinton or just Jeb Bush when you can hedge your bets and donate to both? This seems to be the thinking of a group of powerful men and womenracetrack owners, bankers, media barons, chicken magnates, hedge funders (and their spouses). Some of them have net worths that can eclipse the GDPs of small countries.

Anywhooo, the repubs know that
Hillary is their best chance to win
the general election in 2016
The latest Quinnipiac University swing state polling released Wednesday shows the Democratic frontrunner trailing former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, Florida Sen. Marco Rubio and Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker in each of those states.

(22,871 posts)going to be the democratic candidate and that they need to start attacking her now. At no time in any election ever have the opposition gone after someone they "want" to win the primary,it doesn't work that way and never has. Attacking the strongest opponent is politics 101.Your theory makes no sense in any realistic way.

(6,409 posts)Yeah. They feel the need to dig into the barrel of fear and sling some around the stage. Right now I'm listening to a group of local citizens explain to each other why Clinton is going to lose. They agree she's unstoppable unless somebody comes up with a criminal indictment against her, so they realize their chances are slim.

(7,865 posts)They know that Hillary gins up their base more than Bernie does.
Also, if you have been getting all frothy and crazy and feeding your followers on red meat and bullshit scandals for six years (emails, bengazi, etc) are you going to mention the person you have been pumping up as the Antichrist in heels or are you going to use the name of a Senator that most republicans have never heard of?
The GOP would prefer to run against Hillary.

(6,437 posts)So they are either:
- Differentiating from the Democratic nominee
- Trying to force her out to be presented with a cakewalk candidate in the Democratic side
- Energizing the Clinton hate that continues to eat at their base
None of that changes the fact that it will be extremely hard to stop HRC from taking the presidency.
