Who would make a good VP for Bernie Sanders?

In my view, Congresswoman Judy Chu (D-CA) would be a good pick. She's a Vice-Chair in the Congressional Progressive Caucus, is consistently left-wing on legislation, and has spearheaded efforts to provide abortions and other reproduction assistance to women in developing countries. She's a woman of color, and has been an ardent feminist in the House, fighting against GOP efforts to defund Planned Parenthood. She voted against sequestration in 2011. She's been great on civil liberties, opposing the most egregious provisions of the Patriot Act, opposing bulk collection. She's also opposed racial profiling. She expressed regret for the Chinese Exclusion Act. She also lauched the American Sikh Congressional Caucus to fight discrimination against American Sikhs.

On economic issues, she's consistently supported the budgets that the Congressional Progressive Caucus puts out. She's also always been a co-sponsor of HR 676, which would set up a single-payer, Medicare-for-All system in the U.S. So I think she'd be the perfect complement to Bernie Sanders.

My brother and his girlfriend work in LA and they help immigrants stay in the country. My brother's girlfriend has worked with the kids at the border but also with the South Asian community. A lot of the women in the eye threading, nails etc are worked very hard for very little.

After 9/11 my brother's nonprofit who mainly helped the Latino community, worked really hard on behalf of the Middle Eastern immigrants. There were a lot who were withheld without being charged, some who were Christians but Arab or Persian ethnicity who were profiled as dangerous. People who came after the Shah fell. But the authorities only saw brown.

That is actually what was so interesting at Netroots, when they were talking about the experience of Black immigrants, before O'Malley came on. Immigrants, at least out of DC, is usually code for Mexicans, but there are so many nationalities that face a very difficult time here. I had a co worker from Somalia and he couldn't send money home easily after 9/11. He had loved ones depending on him. Very tough to be in a new country anyway.

Also strong on immigration and race issues as well as on economic issues.

Both Judy Chu and Xavier Becerra are brilliant.

She has degrees in math and psychology. He went to Stanford and I think has a law degree.

Xavier Becerra is very personable, just a great guy. Easy to talk to.

Judy Chu is wonderful too.

I'd go for either one. Wish we could have all three: Bernie, Judy and Xavier. What a good team they would make. Well, sometimes wishes come true.

I like my congressman, Xavier Becerra.

I also like Judy Chu. But I like Becerra best. He is really personable and easy to talk to. Just a great person. He holds lots of coffees with constituents and also hosts conference calls. He is just great. I posted information about him below.

And there is always Elizabeth Warren although her geographical origin would probably not work.
My Congressman, Xavier Becerra would be a good choice. Stanford grad and if I remember correctly a lawyer. He is a wonderful person. Just wonderful.

I think Elizabeth Warren could be a great choice. Even though her and Bernie both represent New England states, I think it would be worth it to have a woman on the ticket, and a well qualified one at that. Usually Presidents and VPs were governors or senators, so she has that qualification. I haven't seen too many go straight from Member of US House straight to VP.

but folklore says it does.) She is the daughter of immigrant parents and serves an area with many immigrants. She has degrees in math and psychology. Just a really brilliant woman. She is, I happen to know, very conscientious and has a great personality. Very kind. I really like her. She might be a very good choice.

My congressman, Xavier Becerra is also a great person who might match Bernie. He is also the son of immigrants and the first in his generation to graduate from college. He is also a wonderful person, very personable, very easy to talk to. Would make a great campaigner.

He once said he didn't want to run for the Senate because he doesn't like raising money. But he is so loved by his constituents.

He and Judy Chu would be good choices, but it is up to Bernie.

I am of course partial to Xavier Becerra.

Becerra on the issues:

Taxes

Becerra has consistently expressed opposition to Social Security and Medicare cuts and tax provisions seen to benefit outsourcers.[22] He argued against the Job Protection Act and Recession Prevention Act of 2012 which would extend certain tax provisions enacted in 2001 and 2003 under G.W. Bush, on which Becerra voted against despite it passing through the House.[23] He has consistently voted against budget plans like that would protects tax cuts for higher income brackets by cutting Medicare, Medicaid, SNAP, and vital federal services.[24] He supported legislation like the Middle Class Tax Relief and Job Creation Act of 2012.
Immigration

As a Representative from California, immigration is a pertinent issue for Rep. Becerra because of its proximity to the border and the large number of undocumented immigrants in California. Rep. Becerra is a strong advocate for immigration reform and is a strong supporter of the DREAM Act and comprehensive immigration reform.[25] Additionally, Rep. Becerra supports the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program put in place by President Obama.[26]
Women's Issues

Becerra is pro-choice and supports the right of access to abortion.[27] On May 31, 2012, Becerra voted against H.R. 3541, the Prenatal Nondiscrimination Act (PRENDA) that would impose civil and criminal penalties on anyone who knowingly attempts to perform a sex-selective abortion. The bill also requires healthcare providers to report known or suspected violations to law enforcement, including suspicions about a woman's motives for seeking an abortion.[28] Becerra received a 100% rating from Planned Parenthood and NARAL Pro-Choice America in 2012.[29][30] Becerra voted in favor of the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act of 2009 which would make the 180-daystatute of limitationsfor filing an equal-pay lawsuit regarding pay discrimination reset with each new paycheck affected by that discriminatory action.[31][32]

Never really heard of her before, except in passing House votes, etc., and she's on the right side of the country - the West.

She might be helpful in foreign affairs too...

Will keep my eyes open and look for her on CSpan....when I have it on...
