Unofficial DU Presidential poll

Last edited Thu Apr 30, 2015, 03:49 PM - Edit history (2)

Hillary Clinton:

"The American people are tired of liars and people who pretend to be something they're not."

"I think that you can disagree with people and debate over their positions with issues without engaging in the politics of personal destruction."

(Both quotes from; "The 25 Most Inspiring Hillary Clinton Quotes&quot
http://www.marieclaire.com/career-advice/tips/a11373/best-hillary-clinton-quotes/

Bernie Sanders:

"This country and our government belong to all of us, not just a handful of billionaires."
(Bernie Sanders 4/30/15)

"Let us wage a moral and political war against war itself, so that we can cut military spending and use that money for human needs."
http://www.brainyquote.com/quotes/authors/b/bernie_sanders.html

Clinton and Sanders are the only ones so far who have officially announced their intention to run for the Democratic nomination.
However, I've included former Maryland Gov. Martin O'malley because he has been talking about running for quite some time; and over the past year and a half or so,
"has appeared in 23 states other than his own to speak to local Democrats, with a conspicuous number of appearances in Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina."

Martin O'Malley:

"Our parents and grandparents understood this truth deeply.
They believed - as we do - that to create jobs, a modern economy requires modern investments: educating, innovating and rebuilding for our children's future.
Building an economy to last, from the middle class up, not from the billionaires down."

"But we should not lose sight of how far we are coming and what a big hole we were left by George W. Bush."

(Both quotes from Brainy Quotes)

1. A reminder that in 2008, John Edwards won these polls at DU.

Even for a couple of weeks after he dropped out.

3. In 2008, I supported John Edwards

Although his extra-marital affair with filmmaker Rielle Hunter was first reported in late 2007, (National Enquirer), the allegations were denied by both Hunter and Edwards.

It wasn't until August 7, 2008, that "Edwards admitted to ABC News correspondent,
Bob Woodruff, that he did have an extended affair with Hunter."

4. You're right, O'Malley hasn't yet officially announced,

But according to the December, 2014 issue of The Atlantic:
"In the past year and a half, O'Malley has appeared in 23 states other than his own to speak to local Democrats or to raise funds for candidates, with a conspicuous number of appearances in Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina."
http://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2014/12/the-long-shot/382238/

Upon reflection, I should remove the "And Now There Are Three" from my OP, since it is a little misleading.

(I do expect O'Malley to enter the race soon, though).

6. Lee Mercer Jr.was the first Democrat to run TV ads for the 2016 election

His most exciting platform point is:
"a new computerized government that will run the office of the President of the United States with a computer."

He probably is more qualified than any of the Republican candidates, and also probably more honest as well.

7. In the primary, i vote my ideology... in the general, i vote my party
Fri May 1, 2015, 07:08 AM
May 2015

I've voted this way for 30 years.

In the primary, i vote for the candidates who most closely mirror my views on the issues. Even if they "can't win", i want my opinions to show up in the statistics, so that the party knows that i/we exist when it comes time to write platforms at the convention, etc...

In the general election, i vote for the Democratic Party candidate for the job, even if on rare occasion i would more prefer a Green or other 3rd-party candidate more. Party majorities are too important to allow the other side of the aisle that advantage. Executive office (President / Governor) powers are too important to allow them in Republican hands.
