Democrats blowing ‘birther’ bonanza

E.J. Montini is a columnist for The Arizona Republic.

... Republican Secretary of State Ken Bennett makes a laughingstock of the state by diving head first into the shallow end of the ‘birther’ pool (there is no deep end), and instead of taking full advantage of this political bonanza, and e-x-t-e-n-d-i-n-g it, one of the state’s top Democratic lawmakers wants to toss it all away by getting Bennett to do … the right thing ...

Campbell wants Bennett to resign from that post.

Such a suggestion should have sent Democratic strategists into the street shouting, “NOOOOOOOOO!”

It does not help Romney AT ALL – nationally, anyway -- to have a birther as a state campaign co-chairman. Democrats should love that ...

Democrats are calling for Bennett's resignation, knowing full well that he won't, and will have the same target with even more taint attached to him.

Republicans never surrender power without crushing pressure from their own side, so our criticism is of no matter, except for the PR value. He's not going anywhere.

As I've explained to a couple of (D) friends recently, the Republicans, NeoCons, Teabaggers and Birthers spend all their time with people of like mind. They have zero concept of how the rest of us view them from outside the bubble.
