Cummings says Issa apologized and he accepts
-snip-
"This evening, Chairman Issa telephoned me and apologized for his conduct, and I accepted his apology," Cummings said in a statement. "My sincere hope is that as we move forward, we will respect the opinions of all members of the committee, we will proceed in a deliberate and considered manner to obtain the facts, we will refrain from making accusations that have no basis in fact, and we will seek resolution rather than unnecessary conflict."
Aides to Issa did not immediately respond to an email sent late Thursday night seeking comment.

(130,895 posts)but the politeness is what gets us Dems every time. Polite vs. Sociopathic behavior = nothing, these days.

(3,544 posts)Lets see, the far right are well known racists. Connect the dots.
Indicating Cummings was having a hissy fit is not a good excuse to cut off someone from speaking. By the way, I saw no hissy fit. He did not get his 5 minutes under the rules established. That only leaves me to one conclusion.

(81,238 posts)It comes down to pure unadulterated racism. I saw this elsewhere here, where some authority (I forget who) was quoted as saying the rise of the teabaggers is a direct result of the President being black. I think it all stems from this realization that dawned on many of them a few days after January 20th 2009 - that there actually was, horror-of-horrors, a black guy in the Oval Office and he wasn't the janitor. This kind of shit can well be expected if/when Hillary Clinton gets elected, too, I'll bet. The corollary that will dawn on many of the same people (who are also sexist as hell and believe deep-down that women, like African Americans, should "know their place." will be - OMG, there's a gal in the Oval Office and she isn't the maid!
I think that's the one explanation that makes sense. I knew, in my bones, what the bottom line was for that pathetic woman standing in the back of the room at one contentious town hall meeting, weeping and wailing "I Want MY A-MARE-ica BAAAACK!!!!" Her America was the Beaver Cleaver one, the "Father Knows Best" one, the "Ozzie and Harriet" one - where it was lily-white suburbia and Mommy stayed at home and didn't leave the house except to pick up the kids or go to the grocery store or the PTA meeting, while Daddy went to work every day (and of course, his paycheck alone was enough to support that perfect average 2.3 children/dog/station wagon family, and his job had good benefits - probably because of the work some union had done - OH GOD we can't go THERE!!!!!!! Unions BAAAAAD!!!!) or even the "Jack Benny Program" America where there was the occasional black character, the butler Rochester, but he was harmless and and funny and wisecracking and served as the jester of the royal court. THAT was evidently an acceptable role for blacks. HER America was the one in which the President of the United States was always an older white man. In other words, HER America never existed in real life, only in fiction and nice harmless sanitized TV sitcoms. The smart or wisecracking woman was the zany goofball (Lucy) or the maid (Hazel) or, if it had to be, the old-maid career-gal (Lois Lane). Every other female needed to be June Cleaver, Harriet Nelson, or Donna Reed. And that world DOES NOT EXIST in real life. But it sure made a nice comfy non-challenging pretend image on which to hang your political worldview.
