2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumSo what is the real main difference between Dems and the GOP?
Let's see. Let's remove UE checks for 1.3M Americans? Republicans supported this to the hilt. This was the bottom line of a recent event in history, for those that do not know. The outcome of this is yet to come and I don't think it is going to turn out good at all. I read today that Ryan wants to hold the country hostage again in January, unless the Dems cave into their demands. I could go on and on over how heartless the GOP has been over the past decade regarding the "betterment for all". They could care less about mankind. It's all about me, me, me, and then ME.
So I would venture to say that the biggest difference is they have no heart. The radicals representing their party are heartless. They have no feelings at all. How sad it must be for them to live in a world, where no one wants to help anyone, in any form/way. Can you imagine how bad it must be for 2 married republicans living under the same roof? I would really like to know what the divorce rate is for both parties. Bet it's higher for the GOP.
Sorry, I can't live in that world, and NEVER will. Can you guess which party my wife supports? I love her dearly.
Anyone else weigh in on this?

"me, me, me" is a bit off the mark; that's usually part of it, but there's a bit of nuance to fully understanding it. republicans do have gut instinct of protectiveness that sometimes can work quite honorably for the country as a whole. the problem is that "gut thinking" is easily manipulated, and that security instinct can be turned into a "guns, guns, guns, waaaaar!" fear instinct.
i know several republican couples, often the husband is very protective and security conscious, and the wife greatly appreciates the feeling of safety and security in the home.
personally, i don't often reassure mrs. unblock that i'd take a bullet for her. i certainly would hypothetically, but i simply think the situation where that would arise is so comically absurd that i couldn't say it with a straight face. in the unlikely event that she's that sort of mortal peril and i'm in a position to help, either we both survive or we both die. but i do know republican husbands who give that kind of comfort to their wives all the time and they do respond positively to that.
so i wouldn't say the "me, me, me" is actually just straightforward greed. it all comes back to the circles concept i've mentioned in other posts. if you're on the inside of one of their circles (family, perhaps church, etc.) some republicans can be quite giving and generous. it's just that their circles tend to be smaller and more rigid than the circles of democrats.

They are the two wings of the Money Party. If you begin with that premise, things will make sense.
