House GOP Offers Narrower Domestic Violence Bill

House Republicans are backing their own version of a domestic violence bill.

Thirty-six GOP Members, including Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy, are co-sponsoring a bill to reauthorize the Violence Against Women Act, reports CQ’s John Gramlich.

The measure is being sponsored by Rep. Sandy Adams (R-Fla.) and co-sponsored by nearly all of the Republican women. It differs from Senate Democrats’ version of the bill in key ways.

The House bill also would eliminate Senate language that supporters say would do more to help victims of domestic violence including gays and lesbians, immigrants and American Indians. Adams considers those provisions unnecessary, a spokeswoman said. “The grants are available to all victims, and there is no evidence to conclude that victims are being turned away,” said spokeswoman Lisa Boothe in an email.

The support of McCarthy and Judiciary Chairman Lamar Smith are a signal the bill is on a fast-track to passage.

That Republican women in Congress hate gays, lesbians, abused immigrants and American Indians, just as much as Republican men!

Nothing ever seems to be wrong and there never seems to be a need (for them) to do anything for anybody. To them, it seems like if it doesn't exist, it doesn't need to exist, period. It seems like their only motivation for getting elected is to basically stop anything helpful from getting done.
