If Romney wants to get rid of HUD, if he doesn't combine it with other agencies if

he should become President, the impact on seniors and people with low incomes is going to be seriously impacted. The building next to me is HUD, mostly people on SS only, little or no savings or other incoming revenue. If HUD is done away with, (I truly doubt it will but he is very cavalier in even discussing such a thing) people will absolutely be scrambling to find places to live. Rents are very high, all over. Romney is a dangerous guy and seniors and others better check him out thoroughly.

From Crooks & Liars:

"I'm going to take a lot of departments in Washington, and agencies, and combine them. Some eliminate, but I'm probably not going to lay out just exactly which ones are going to go," Romney said. "Things like Housing and Urban Development, which my dad was head of, that might not be around later. But I'm not going to actually go through these one by one. What I can tell you is, we've got far too many bureaucrats. I will send a lot of what happens in Washington back to the states."

that he made a point of that...I wonder if Mitt has an issue with his Dad...Mitt was all about letting his Dad's beloved auto industry crash and burn. Fodder for shrinks here, I think.

They provide too many services which are appreciated and needed by the industry, imo, in addition to services needed by people.

I currently live in HUD housing and have been trying to get out of the place I'm in since one week after moving in. We, as in 24 tenants, have contacted HUD officials, if you want to call them that, to let them know our Manager is a joke! HUD has specific regulations for who can live in their subsidized housing and who can't; convicted felons are a huge no-no! In the last year we've had three convicted felons, one of whom murdered someone and spent 25 years in prison, but was allowed to live in our facility. Most of us call this place "Alcatraz" because rules don't seem to matter when renting an apartment as long as they can pay rent. After contacting HUD, with a disclaimer attached to our letters, they proceeded to call our Manager and tell her everything we complained about, word for word, and who sent the letters. So much for getting any help from them. I'm certainly not saying that all HUD buildings are run like ours, but if you don't stand up for yourself who will? I have had my life threatened and continually followed by this person since he was removed from our building. I've been harassed by the Manager who seems to think she can enter my apartment and take anything she wants to or try and access information on my computer while I am gone. We also have a tenant who is a "trusted friend" of the Manager, but not an employee who has security monitors in her apartment and can view the comings and goings of everyone here. If you don't get along with her you might as well pack your bags and leave. After reading all of this please tell me that HUD is great and who do you contact to get the proper results. I'm not someone who can be pushed around and not stand up for myself and many of the elderly who live here, but I haven't a clue who to call or contact. If anyone can share that information I'd love to hear it. Thanks for letting me vent. It's been a long two years and I WILL leave if I have live on the streets.

16. Romney pulling the plug on Grandma?

Closing down Housing and Urban Development (HUD) would throw millions of elderly out on the streets. There are many of millions of seniors living in subsidised apartments around the country that depend on the HUD/Section 8 help with the rent--30% of income is what seniors pay for rent, less out of pocket medical expenses.

This is REALLY pulling the plug on Grandma!
