Is this stupidity, insanity, or some kind of bizarre plan?

John Boehner now says that one of the Republicans main goals this year is ending abortion. This coming at a time when the majority of the population supports a woman's right to choose. The President supports that right and the Senate does as well.

Does he have the Supreme Court in his pocket already? Is it just a ploy to put off everything else again?
WTF?

Your thoughts?

Seriously, it's probably nothing but pandering but if they really plan to push this *goal* for the next two years, well, please proceed...........

7. They're believing the wrong polls again!

As in the election, they're choosing the ones that agree with their view regardless of accuracy.

Just yesterday, some stupid woman interviewed by Russert the Dumb on MSNBC quoted a poll that said 82% opposed abortion. Of course he didn't refute it.

Love that bubble! Let's hear it for THE STUPID!

8. Look at this hand over here.

Though, I think they would love to strip the rights of women to abortion. If they can pull this off as well, then they'll be hysterical with joy.

But, I think it's to distract from whatever other nefarious, devious, underhanded evil piece of bullsh*t they're trying to pull.

10. They're desperate to keep the ultra-conservatives hooked in for 2014

It doesn't matter that this shit can't work as a matter of policy. Right now, they have the complete collapse of the Tea Party to contend with, as well as a base that is disheartened, suspicious of contributing, and generally exhausted. they also have Obama's people now coming after them in even their own gerrymandered districts, never mind the moderate Northern and Western districts. They absolutely have to firm up their base, or even their disgusting gerrymandering won't save them in 2014.

This is what the GOP does nowadays. Never mind that the public at large isn't clamoring for it.

13. The best way to "end" abortion.....

is through contraception, education and scientific/medical support.

You'll never "end" it, of course, but if we do it right, we can achieve that illusive goal of making it safe and legal, yet rare. The only reason I would want to drop the abortion rate is that it is an invasive medical procedure that I would love all women to be able to avoid. But banning it entirely would be a big mistake. RWers hate to admit it, but there are medically sound reasons for some abortions. And there are more morally sound reasons to allow them, IMHO.

Christ, you'd think they would read their own Bible. The Genesis fable about the garden tells it all. There's a reason they call it the 'forbidden fruit.' Abolishing something is the best way to increase it's attraction to the people. All of their efforts to make sex less attractive to young folks flies in the face of millions of years of biology/anthropology.

I've long held the belief that their abortion stance has nothing to do with unborn children. That's a red herring. Their real goal is controlling women's sex lives, plain and simple. You can't maintain a male dominated society if women can have sex at will, and most importantly, have a choice in who's man-seed they allow to germinate within their bodies.

16. If their concern really was for unborn children...

that concern would continue once the child exited the womb. Of course we all know how that worked out.

According to UNICEF, 23.1% of American children under the age of seventeen live in poverty. The United States ranks second out of thirty-five economically advanced countries. Romania ranks first, with 25.5% of children living in poverty.

15. They're losing control of the discourse recently...

They've been losing control of the discourse, or losing the public image battle. They need to refocus their side and they need to try to drag our side into a struggle where they stand a better chance of controlling public perception. The abortion issue has done great things for their side and reactions of both their side and ours are probably easily predicted in this area, so naturally they turn in that direction, but I don't think it will be the only thing they'll try to use this way in coming months. They'll be looking for any issue they can use to make themselves look better and keep their side fired up.

17. Ever noticed that some TV shows resort to "stunt casting" right before they're canceled?

Think back to shows you've watched: the ratings are sagging, the writers are flagging, so hey! So-and-so whooptifloo Big Name Star will be making a cameo next week. The uber-evil-villain, long believed dead, magically returns. Long-lost relatives magically appear. In short, *anything* that will get a few more eyeballs.

18. GOP #2 ISSUE - FLAT EARTH #3 ISSUE - EARTH IS THE CENTER OF THE UNIVERSE

The GOP seems to pick concerns that have no meaning so that the ass clowns can show how crazy they are to the public.

This big problem is that there is a large population that does not know about basic science or can walk and chew gum at the same time.

19. The GOP truly lives in a bubble

They have their own conservative media complex which is used to send a far right message to an insular group.

It's like the GOP is living in an alternate reality. But there are more people in the Obama coalition than who would vote for the GOP. So this weird GOP ignorance to reality is going to continue.

Yes, a ploy to put everything else off again. Did you really think Republicans would start playing ball? They'll destroy themselves before they'll ever work with Obama.

And - they are desperate to keep their base emotionally invested....abortion talk works.

25. Money. It's about money, cleaning out the pockets of abortion foes.

This is actually the perfect time for that, they are losing.
But it's a racket.

To walk in money through the night crowd, protected by money, lulled by money, dulled by money, the crowd itself a money, the breath money, no least single object anywhere that is not money, money, money everywhere and still not enough, and then no money, or a little money or less money or more money, but money, always money, and if you have money or you donít have money it is the money that counts and money makes money, but what makes money make money? -- Henry Miller in "Tropic of Capricorn"

He's just trying to get his rednecks back in his pocket. Next he might bring up gays n god. See what his peeps react to. Then run with that.

They don't really want RoeVWade reversed. It has brought them so much political usage that they will never let it go.

Oh yea, he might remind everyone that Obama is black too. Whatever works, he will try.
