See my original post, before edit.

Miss Ora Wood, my 8th grade English teacher, would be horrified. But at least I got it right... As did you.

She was a tyrant. But we all loved her because, in spite of her tyranny...

1. We had a lot of fun.
2. We learned English grammar.
3. We learned literature probably for the first time.

She was old. She minced no words. We put on plays. We read books. We diagrammed sentences. No student left her class without loving what she did.

I will never forget her... a teacher's teacher.

Ora Wood, English teacher, Cadillac Jr. High, Detroit, Michigan. A class act, but also a tyrant. Let the latter not diminish the former.

We "worked it" until we got it right. Standards were pretty damn high and we were expected to live up to them.

I hope that she doesn't overdo it. The gifts were a hoot. She looks delighted by them.
