2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumIn the CLEAREST sign Marco Rubio is running for president in 2016...
he voted against the Fiscal Cliff deal.
No way could he make it through the Nutbaggery Straw Polls (aka GOP Primaries) if he had voted in favor of it.
Watch him move his votes even further to the right now.

(297,184 posts)Bennet of Colorado and Carper Delaware didn't vote for it? I already know Harkin's reason.

(24,146 posts)In a middle-of-the-night statement, Bennet called Washington the land of flickering lights poking fun of its penchant for doing things at the last minute. He said the Coloradans hes met want a plan materially reduces the deficit. This proposal does not meet that standard and does not put in place a real process to reduce the debt down the road.
The move is an intrepid one from the perch of Democratic party leadership. Bennet runs the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee a fundraising arm of the party for the 2014 Senate cycle. He just took the job last month and has vowed not to let it get in the way of his middle-of-the-road ideals and crossing the aisle reputation.

(25,183 posts)Since Election Day, he's seen fortunes shift his way. Christie is NOT going to get the Rethug nomination after his wet, sloppy kiss of the President after Hurricane Sandy. The GOP actually is starting to realize it has a Latino problem. And a young candidate is going to look pretty good, compared to all the white grandfather figures the Repukes have had to deal with for the last few primary seasons.
Rubio knows that if the deal goes through and succeeds, he won't get any blame for voting against it, but if anything else at all happens, he can claim that he was "right" way back on New Year's Eve in 2012.

(8,084 posts)I mean sure they think it looks good for them to prop up there token non-white guys, Steel, Cain, Rubio. But allowing them to be the head huncho no way.
But wishing is free so he can wish and hope and pray all he wants.

(5,066 posts)He may run but he will get nowhere.A non-white guy? seriously. It's one thing to let minoritys who talk like Republican white guys
to be elected governor and senator but president or vice president? No way.
Mark my words the GOP nomination will come down to
Jeb Bush
Christie(the GOP will forget about 2012 If he wins relection as Governor In November)
Santorum(he will be the 2012 also ran to be taken seriously)
