Obama is causing a Republican civil war!!

I laughed my ass off when I read this..

Syndicated columnist Charles Krauthammer said President Barack Obama has successfully broken the will of Republicans in the House and has created an “internal civil war” amidst “fiscal cliff” negotiations.

“He’s been using this, and I must say with great skill — and ruthless skill and success — to fracture and basically shatter the Republican opposition,” Krauthammer said. “His objective from the very beginning was to break the will of the Republicans in the House, and to create an internal civil war. And he’s done that.”

Well I guess Obama has gone from being just a foreign born Marxist to a generator of a Republican civil war!

Now I dont think Charles the Hammer meant it to be a complement..nor did he mean it to be funny,,,but I think its both!!

Fri Dec 28, 2012, 01:36 AM

I do see where he is trying to drive three stakes into the heart of the beast:

1) Taking down Grover Norquist. He successfully forced Norquist into the position of endorsing "plan B", which was obviously a tax increase. Because of this, Republicans will never be able to take their pledges as serious in the future.

2) Breaking the back of "the Hastert rule" which is the mechanism by which the teabaggers have locked up the House. The "Hastert Rule" says that the speaker won't bring up any bills that don't have the support of the majority of GOP Representatives. That isn't a formal rule. Boehner has just been too cowardly to ignore it. The 80-or-so teabaggers combine with another ~40 GOP reps that are afraid of being "priimaried" to block everything -- even bills that would pass with substantial Democratic support. Obama hasn't broken the back of that thing yet, but it is coming. It appears there is no deal that Obama will sign that the teabaggers can agree to, which means that Boehner will eventually have to break the Hastert Rule and let the Dems help him push it through. That is why Boehner can't do anything until after January 3 or else he would be ousted from his Speakership.

3) Hostage taking re: the debt ceiling. Nothing firm here yet. Obama made it clear he wanted to authorize the debt ceiling for the next 4 years and his offer last week was 2 years. The teabaggers see that as their only real leverage so they don't want to give it up. That is why Geithner is now saying that, golly, we hit the debt ceiling at the exact same time as "the cliff". This is ramping up pressure on the teabaggers. The only way that tactic is effective is if Obama is willing to actually start shutting down parts of the government. He'd better have the balls for that because otherwise it will be a huge blunder to have brought it up and then back down.

Considering Obama has a very strong hand for this round -- and probably will not have such a strong hand any time in the next 4 years, I would rather see him take on a much more direct fight, and not appear so eager to back down on going over "the cliff" or letting the GOP try their hand st shutting down the government. But we'll see how well his way works

Fri Dec 28, 2012, 03:59 AM
Dec 2012

The articles I checked didn't indicate more than that he is confined to a wheelchair, something I seem to have read before, but it explains his slump that you see on camera. If his spine was broken high up it could affect his breathing; again they don't say if he's para- or quadraplegic.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_Krauthammer
Krauthammer was born on March 13, 1950, in New York City[3][4] and raised in Montreal, Quebec, where he attended McGill University and obtained an honors degree in political science and economics in 1970. The following year, he was a Commonwealth Scholar in politics at Balliol College, Oxford, before returning to the United States and entering Harvard Medical School. During Krauthammer's first year of medical school, he was paralyzed in a diving accident[4][5] and was hospitalized for a year and two months. However, he continued his medical studies and was able to graduate with his class, earning his Doctor of Medicine in 1975.

It's quite an interesting read; the man is extremely bright and accomplished, whatever we may think of his politics.

Fri Dec 28, 2012, 01:29 PM

He probably had a foundation of rugged individualism (nothing wrong with that) and then overcoming his many challenges with grit, determination, and high intelligence (nothing wrong wit those either) left him with the impression that if he could do it, anyone could. I'm speculating wildly here, of course. I have not studied the man. All I know for sure is that similar experiences will lead different people to vastly different conclusions sometimes. You just never know.

Afterthought: given the length of time he was hospitalized (over a year) and the reason for his paralysis (diving) leads me to think he may be quadraplegic. He may use a vent at night and consciously taking every breath when he's awake. That would explain his labored speech. (I had a friend who was a long term survivor of muscular dystrophy, and by the time I knew her that was how she functioned.)

That’s interesting, though it is a 1975 degree. From my view Doctorate degrees, or for that matter a master or undergraduate degree perhaps have an expiration date like a fresh loaf of bread. Lol.

Moreover it would be interesting to read his doctorate dissertation and to know who his adviser or panel of advisors were. Or is Harvard still loaded with some wacko’s. lol.

Whether Krauthammer is intelligent or not that smart vector is pointed in the wrong direction. Even before I knew Krauthammer had a degree in medicine it was obvious by casual conversation in the Fox News Panel that he was sharpening an axe. At first I did not know he was in a wheel chair. Sort of giving that across the bow as a Franklin Roosevelt model “in over the mahogany” conference style debater.

Yes, he is psychopathic; likely a liberal caused his accident. So, here he is getting retribution being paid to get his revenge, or he needs some physic therapy because he does realize Obama care is the best thing for him! That would be a hoot to see his medical bills if they paid by Romney care which is Obama care. Is it not insane where Krauthammer appears to be a circular hate conversation?

Now this is just silly.

Krauthammer said both sides have mandates of their own, and whether or not Obama likes it, he’s going to need to cave if he wants to avoid going off the cliff, or at least stem its most economically damaging consequences.

Democrats have a mandate. Republicans have a gerrymandered majority in the House with a minority of the votes. They do have their marching orders and their crazy philosphy. I guess that's what he means by mandate. I'm not saying that they're going to cave. I really don't have a clue what's going to happen, but no way to House Republicans have any sort of mandate from real, actual voters.

It is January, 2009. General Motors is in dire trouble. So are the Banks.
It's Obama's fault.
The new administration gets a rescue package in the form of a stimulus passed. The deficit goes up temporarily.
It's Obama's fault.
The stimulus/rescue works. GM is saved. The banks and AIG, too.
It's Obama's fault.
Bin Laden is still on the loose.
It's Obama's fault.
Bin Laden is caught and put out of circulation permanently.
It's Obama's fault.
Our former nemesis Qadaffi is still in power.
It's Obama's fault.
Qaddafi is removed from power.
It's Obama's fault.
Congressional Republicans block virtually every initiative and appointment proposed by Obama
It's Obama's fault

Which would be quite common with a diving related injury. He talks pretty well to have a tracheotomy. They usually interfere a lot more with your voice. Depending on the height of his cervical injury, his breathing is affected differently. He obviously has some issues with his diaphragm muscles which, as someone above posted, he can conciously control when he huffs in a breath. He might not need assistance breathing at night, thus really no need for a trach, at his level of injury. But controlling his breathing to speak clearly requres more laborous breathing techniques, if that makes sense. That is also quite common with a high cervical injury. I worked as an attendant for a couple of years in a spinal cord rehab unit in Memphis while training as a surgical technologist early in my career progression. That's been 26 years ago though and alot has changed in medicine.
