2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumOn the Right, Santorum Has Women’s Vote
This is the second article I've seen this primary highlighting conservative women's support for Rick Santorum. The first was "Rick Santorum winning more support from Republican women" from the 2/24/12 Washington post.
Today's NY Times had another such article. Excerpts:
They harmonized on Game On, a sprightly campaign anthem that concluded, Yes, I believe/Rick Santorum is our man.
What happened next was more like a revival meeting than a political event.
The performers asked each other and the crowd what they liked best about the presidential candidate. Camille Harris, 20, exclaimed into the microphone, Seven kids! Seven kids! Turning her attention to Mr. Santorums youngest, Isabella, born with a genetic disorder, the singer added, Didnt abort the last one, which is amazing.
Then several women in the crowd called out that Mr. Santorum was a Christian and a man of faith, and that he was honest and honorable. Bursting with enthusiasm, one woman said, Hes for life!
Yes, "Game On" is that corny campaign song that can't compete with the pro-Obama songs like "Yes We Can". If you can't handle it, don't click the video below (or at least click only to hear Sam Seder's commentary, starting at 2:35):
Mr. Santorum "for life"? Well, when he enters the white house, I wonder how many lives will be lost whether lacking health insurance in the US or dying from combat in Iran.
Furthermore, the NYT brings out the numbers to prove yes indeed, the ladies luuuuv Rick:
while a majority of American women overall realize that Santorum doesn't care about them...and let me repeat my comment from my thread about the previous women/Santorum article: "It must take a whole lot of authoritarianism drilled in the mind for the first 18 years of life to be a Republican woman. (edited to add) And I wonder how many Republican women nowadays remember when the party supported the Equal Rights Amendment (1976 platform) or if those women only began paying attention to politics post-1980?"

(37,152 posts)...vote for Santorum, but I no longer have patience with women like that - they put all our children at risk.

(25,453 posts)Their political views are fucking crazy and it's a damn shame that they are supporting someone who is so adamantly against women's rights. It's also unfortunate that they're using this as a means to get noticed. I think they've got enough talent that they could be successful without having to latch on to a nutjob like Santorum.

(24,347 posts)that I can easily see them voting for someone who tells them they should be barefoot, pregnant, and in the kitchen.
