Jindal: GOP Can’t Be ‘Party That Simply Protects The Rich’

Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal (R) offered a frank asssessment of what he believes cost the Republican Party at the ballot box this year in an interview with Politico that ran Tuesday, suggesting that the GOP has come to be seen as too cozy with the wealthiest segment of the country.

“We’ve got to make sure that we are not the party of big business, big banks, big Wall Street bailouts, big corporate loopholes, big anything,” Jindal said. “We cannot be, we must not be, the party that simply protects the rich so they get to keep their toys.”

Ostensibly referring to the likes of Rep. Todd Akin (R-MO) and Richard Mourdock, Jindal also noted that some Republican candidates inflicted harm on the party's image this year.

“It is no secret we had a number of Republicans damage our brand this year with offensive, bizarre comments — enough of that,” Jindal said. “It’s not going to be the last time anyone says something stupid within our party, but it can’t be tolerated within our party. We’ve also had enough of this dumbed-down conservatism. We need to stop being simplistic, we need to trust the intelligence of the American people and we need to stop insulting the intelligence of the voters.”

So, that's now Kristol, Jindal and Jeb Bush that have all told the GOP that they are too extreme. This is setting up to be a civil war amongst the GOP, as there appears to be no way around this. I think there only solution is to break the party in two, as the moderates and tea baggers are never going to be on the same page.

That's the entire identity of the republican party. What would be left if they just change everything they stand for?

you get this:

The Republican Party is going to fight for every single vote,” he said. “That means the 47 percent and the 53 percent, that means any other combination of numbers going up to 100 percent.”

On cultural issues, he suggested the party not retreat from its stances opposing abortion rights and gay marriage but rather soften its tone on such matters.

Translated, that means he thinks there really is an "undeserving" 47 percent, and they're going to "soften their tone" but take the same stance on abortion and gay rights.

In other words, bright new bow on a box that contains the same old crap.

His home-state critics will argue that his rhetoric doesn’t match his policies — he’s currently taking heat for deep cuts to Louisiana’s public hospital system. But the governor said Republicans should frame themselves as on the side of the people.

Havent we heard that the Republicans are the part of teh common man and the democrats are the party of "the elite."

Again, more with their lies. Jindal finally admits it. I wonder why Bobby had to change his first name before he ran for office. Certainly if the republicans would accept him regardless of his name because they dont judge people based on anything but work ethic.

No doubt framing it, not as "trickle down", but basically the same theory...that its the conservatives that are better at creating jobs and wealth, which will benefit everyone INCLUDING those at the bottom. And that somehow they must reclaim that narrative, that is rightfully theirs, that was STOLEN by those nasty dishonest Democrats.

The business about not being the Party of Stupid any more will benefit the whole country, imo, but when Jindal says:
“We’ve got to make sure that we are not the party of big business, big banks, big Wall Street bailouts, big corporate loopholes, big anything,” Jindal said. “We cannot be, we must not be, the party that simply protects the rich so they get to keep their toys.” He's being disingenuous about that part, I think. The GOP has no intention of making the plutocrats give up their toys, but he simply recognizes they need to package it with a new veneer.

Beware the GOP now and in the foreseeable future.
