(6,017 posts)Trans Exclusionary Radical Feminists - many of whom it seems are indeed very butch lesbians - have been known to team up with conservative Christians and by extension the GOP when any sort of discrimination protections for trans students are discussed. A few years back they went so far as to out/dox a minor to the point she ended up on suicide watch from the vitriol people sent her way. The most infamous one is a lawyer for a...payday loan company, just to let you know what kind of people they seem to be. And this year the GOP has made attacking trans students a part of their official party platform(s) as well as directed their lawmakers to create as many anti-trans laws as they could, in order to manufacture another fund and vote raising issue like marriage equality was in 2008 & 2012 (see the January GOP resolution, still up on their website). Meanwhile the DNC went so far as to have a trans woman speak at the convention and have made it clear that they will support equality laws.
Think of them as the very angry equivalent to the Log Cabin Republicans. There aren't many and they are extremists, but that's why they get noticed.

I knew there was an under the surface tension between butch vs fem gay men and staight acting gays against trans but I was not aware that it led to these types of political contradictions
How any non hetero gender identifier could support Trump just baffles me

(8,028 posts)You've managed to singlehandedly hijack the OP and unfairly turn this thread into a referendum against butch lesbians.
There is absolutely nothing in that video to suggest that this woman is a TERF or that she has any problems with the transgender community, whatsoever.
Xenophobic, republican nut job? Yes. TERF? No. Not with the evidence at hand.
You should delete this homophobic screed and address the topic presented instead of the offensive leap of logic you've created.

(6,017 posts)Who knows? Maybe of all the LGBT people I've known, met, loved and heard of over the years, somehow my sampling was completely skewed. It's always a possibility. Still, just going by what I know, what I've experienced and what others have told me, it's highly probably that she's a TERF.
TeeYiYi
(8,028 posts)...have to do with the OP? She's not attacking trans people. She's calling out and effectively outing a gay man for not sharing her political and xenophobic views. As despicable as she may very well be, you've chosen to create a narrative that clearly isn't being presented in the video.
Your post is pure conjecture that doesn't square with the facts. Despite what you may believe, not all butchs are TERFs. In fact, in my experience, the percentage has to be well below ten percent, if even that many. I've never actually met one in person and I've known and loved hundreds of gay women in my lifetime.
As the mother of a trans child, you obviously and understandably have a biased bone to pick with TERFs, but rather than hijack this thread, you should start one of your own.

(6,017 posts)People who would - one would think - should be their political adversaries. Yet instead are their allies. And of the TERFs I've known over the years, not only a few vote Republican even if they are themselves LGBT and live in states where they don't have legal protections. But then again they also were raised in conservative, Republican families. Seems a pattern...

(3,284 posts)being disgustingly racist because she's white. And maybe she's even fine with his blatant misogyny, even though she's a woman. But if she truly cares about gay rights as she claims, how in the hell can she be ok with his homophobic VP pick?!?!

(7,675 posts)as in if you are gay and never went through the AIDs holocaust and weren't around for Stonewall then you should STFU
But expressing that anger by voting for Trump reveals a deeper dilemma

(13,340 posts)does not necessarily mean someone gives a shit about anyone else, or is even socially progressive.
Almost all the gay folks I know are VERY supportive of transgender people, but I know one who is a complete ass. She thinks transgender people are "frauds," and tends to be very economically conservative.

(2,872 posts)I can't say I know any gay folk like that-- but that's also because my fiancée and I started dating a transgendered person; and I make it a point to cut ties with anyone I know who expresses trans-exclusionary tendency. I have neither the time or temperament for those kinds of people.

(3,428 posts)Anyone who votes for Trump is a racist, as is this woman.
The reality is, is that Trump is the anti-Obama. Trump's support is the racist and he never would have gained any traction if it hadn't been for his pushing of the birtherist racist crap.

(17,037 posts)I once knew a colleague who printed that on his business card. Wanted full marriage rights and civil rights for himself as a gay man, but wanted women to be forced to carry babies to term regardless of the circumstances. And he was so proud of it he printed it on his business card.
