Don't panic - Hillary Clinton just doesn't sweat

Don't panic - Hillary Clinton just doesn't sweat

Just under a year ago, Buzzfeed did an interview with Hillary Clinton in which she joked that the reason she doesn’t sweat is because she is a robot.

It is a well-documented, improbable piece of Clinton trivia. It’s been been repeated in articles and books, and confirmed by friends and staffers. In the summer months — inside the unique hotbox that is a New Hampshire gymnasium, under the baking sun that afflicts the Iowa State Fair — reporters have seen it with their own eyes.

Hillary Clinton literally does not sweat.

This medical condition, the reduction or absence of sweat, is a not uncommon medical condition called hypohidrosis.

Hypohidrosis is diminished sweating in response to appropriate stimuli. While hyperhidrosis is a socially troubling but benign condition, hypohidrosis can lead to hyperthermia, heat exhaustion, heat stroke and potentially death.[1] An extreme case of hypohydrosis in which there is a complete absence of sweating and the skin is dry is termed anhidrosis.

Pretty much the only major risk factor from this skin condition is the increased risk of overheating, which is exactly what happened while standing in the sunlight at the memorial today while wearing a heavy dark suit.

I’ve got another friend with this exact same condition — she just doesn’t sweat — and she has to 1. Avoid direct sunlight for long periods of time 2. Drink lots of ice water on hot days and 3. Stay indoors in the air conditioning as long as possible.

Unless the AC in the White House has a regular habit of going out at the same time as the ice machine, I don’t think Clinton has much to worry about.

I have not been diagnosed with it, but I have never sweated much. I turn beet red when hot, and it takes a long time for me to cool down. When I was a kid, my gym teachers used to freak out because they thought I was about to die I looked so crazy! Little blonde girls with a glowing red face! LOL

Sad.

I have fainted once or twice...I have to drink plenty of water, and I am not thirsty...so I just force myself to drink. I always keep water in the car.

It's an extremely valuable asset for people who have to appear frequently under hot cameras.

Wonder how many beautiful young people have had their shallow dreams of being one of the "important" people on the screen dashed by the opposite problem.

Have family members with the opposite problem--they face problems of dehydration in relatively mild heat.

I cannot be in any heat for more than a short time without getting symptoms.

And I live in Florida. I lasted 10 minutes outside yesterday trying to help SO wash our dogs.

HRC was in dark clothes, a vest and in the high humidity of a city.

...No worries. It's relatively common. If it weren't for overheating easily, I wouldn't mind sweating less. A few hours working outside in this weather and a I look like I feel in a swimming pool.

My face still turns beet red when I'm hot. Fingers used to swell during the night. It was apparently genetic - mother and two sisters had the same problem.

In our early 20s we lived in New Orleans without air conditioning. Mr. Thirties would leave pools of water - literally, pools of water - on our naugahyde couch, while I might have two beads of sweat on my upper lip.

I used to play raquetball in a league 40 years ago, and I would not break a sweat. Other guys were literally forming lakes of perspiration, but I'd be bone dry.

I also had frequent fainting spells from early childhood until my late teens. Doctor said I got overheated easily. Sweating is a cooling mechanism; no sweat and you will overheat.

My son also fainted regularly until his late teens.

and I'm 65--ever since I gave myself heat exhaustion working in the garden in 90 degree weather about 20 years ago.

I have to stay in the shade. I cannot sit or stand in the sun--even if it's only in the 70's--especially when the humidity is high and I've learned
to sense the threshold in my body when I need to get inside to air conditioning.

What does it mean? I don't buy tickets in the sun for baseball or football games (early in the season). I wear a hat when I'm out walking the dog
in the summer. I no longer can do garden tours in late spring/early summer.

It's just something you live with...and it has no effect on critical thinking or ability to make tough decisions.

I don't sweat properly, myself. I do sweat, a little, but not much. When it gets hot, I have to watch it or I can get overheated very easily. Been like this my whole life.

I sweat rivers. It's gross and uncomfortable as hell. My entire face, scalp and neck too! Ugh!!!!!

I lose so much fluid, there's no way to replace it that fast, even if I continuously drink electrolyte solutions!!! Soooo damn annoying.

My job is physical too--as well as intellectual--I'm a Sign Language interpreter. If the room is hot, I'm in big trouble!!! I have to carry water and a small fan with me. And preferably clothes that don't show wetness too badly!!!

AND I have an Ileostomy, so I lose more fluid than normies anyway. Gotta be careful, you can end up with problems!!!
