(22,976 posts)Just like Obama wasn't good enough, being an African American and perceived by the right as "exotic." He could have produced a thousand long-form birth certificates, but it was never good enough. His every move was viewed through an aperture of unsubtle racism and partisan hatred ("You lie!" .
And sadly, because she's a woman (and bears the Clinton name), everything you mention above is true. And the super-toxic fake-stuff has not yet been trotted out.
Brace yourself for a new nadir of ugliness, courtesy of the Republicans -- it's headed downhill at a fearful pace. I have no doubt about Hillary's capacity to weather the coming storm. The tricky part is getting voters to hold steady and stay on course.

(58,785 posts)Because we're winning. Our victories are the advances of society, the embodiment of true government of, by and for the people. We are on the right side of history. Woman are half of virtually every demographic in America.
Hillary would probably have been shocked to learn as a teenager that she would be the first woman nominee for president -- over 50 years later -- but it has finally happened.
And the knuckledraggers will...pretty much just be a problem for their families. "Forgot to warn you, don't mention Hillary Clinton in front of him."

BREAKING: The Clintons Have a Foundation That Saves Children's Lives 🇷🇺#CrookedDrumpf🇷🇺#TraitorTump http://bluenationreview.com/the-clintons-have-a-foundation-that-saves-childrens-lives/

The GOP and their media enablers are once again trying to paint the Clinton Foundation as some kind of nefarious scheme, dismissing its lifesaving work around the world.

(13,260 posts)The article below focuses primarily on sports with some attention to other instances. Many women, girls, and men and boys understand this. The press and "traditionalist" types are far behind and apparently fighting against their own un-examined ideas of "normal."
"'Normal' in our society means male women are written out of the story"
<snip>
In fairness to Inverdale, he is far from alone. Women have a pesky habit of slipping minds at important moments just ask those reporters who discussed our hypothetical new prime minister using he and him before being left red-faced by Theresa Mays victory. (bold added. I don't care for May, but "he" and "him" appears as a default setting when discussing power, politics, and strength.)
<snip>
So ingrained is our societys default male norm, in fact, that many media outlets choose to point out that people are female in newspaper headlines, as if the idea they arent male is as newsworthy as the event they were involved in: Hero gas station clerk saves female doctor from suspected kidnapper; Female judge Constance Briscoe investigated over leaking Chris Huhne case, court told; Female Belgian rower falls ill after racing on Guanabara bay; Woman cyclist fighting for life after horrific crash at danger junction. (bold added. There are several links in this paragraph that I didn't edit into this; please go to article to read the linked examples.)
<snip>
The same shock manifests itself when subjects deviate from other expected norms, too, as swimmer Simone Manuel discovered when her gold medal victory was reduced in headlines to: Michael Phelps shares historic night with African-American. The implication is that white men are individuals human beings in their own right, with personalities and quirks and rich, rounded lives while other people are still defined as members of homogenous othered groups. (bold added. With the ideas of male supremacy, it's not unusual to find white supremacy. Values of supremacy seem to go hand in hand.)

(86,791 posts)for the last 60 years, know it all too well. And that's why I will vote for her and support her as president. I always make that point when discussing our election options with anyone who isn't sure they would vote for her-and I ask them to review the facts rather than believe the M$M about what they do to make her seem less than credible.
And fuck Andrea Mitchell and Maura Liasson!

(2,067 posts)While Hillary certainly faces unique challenges as a female candidate, most of the concern I saw on DU over the last year was not about her gender, but about WHICH plans and policies we were going to see from her at any given time.
Is this going to be the Hillary that is for the TPP, or against the TPP?
Is this going to be the Hillary that is for LGBTQ rights, or against them?
Is this going to be the Hillary that is for a new war in the Middle East, or against one?
Is this going to be the Hillary that is for eliminating "super-predators," or is for social justice?
Those are reasonable questions to ask.

(1,214 posts)They do have to be asked though. Some ( I think relatively few ) Clinton supporters on this site think that asking those questions means that you're against "Team Blue". They don't seem to like the idea of Democratic voters wanting to make clear to our elected officials what we want and don't want from the people that we are electing to represent us.

(1,901 posts)don't matter, and no one else's quotes from the same time frame exist in his little highly edited google.
It's a shame that certain folks were so brainwashed by the trolls and the troublemakers during the primary that they cling to their lies to feed their frothing hate.
sheshe2
(83,913 posts)What is that saying? Ignorance is bliss.
synergie
(1,901 posts)Ho rework or bother to question the RW lies they have unquestioningly imbibed.
The Hillaries of your imagination only exist in the right wing fever swamp, those on the font lines of the LGBTQ struggle know she has always been with them, as do those with an actuality rest in social justice, since she has been working on those issues her entire life and not just dropping in for photo ops.
Reasonable people do their homework, those who are not buy into lies about her record and don't even bother to educate themselves on her policy positions, her votes or the actual issues.
It is no mystery what her stances are, she explains them in great detail. One must shut off ones bigotry, hatred and bias to bother educating oneself on what those are, but those parroting these silly talking points do not seem to be able to do that and delude themselves as what is reasonable and what is plain ridiculous.
MadDAsHell
(2,067 posts)It's extremely important that we pretend she never said that though. So if you could kindly make that quote disappear from the internets I'd appreciate it!
synergie
(1,901 posts)over federal marriage laws. It's extremely important that we stop pretending that 2016 is identical to 2000, and that only certain people be held accountable for failing failing to apply 2016 standards to policy positions in 2000.
So if you could kindly take your double standards, and your ignorance of her actual work with the LGBTQ community throughout her lifetime back to whatever Hillary hating cave you've brought these ridiculous attacks from, I'd appreciate it as well.
Or you could just stop with the frothing hate and google all the other quotes, the other actions and her actual presence on the front lines, and learn why you must pretend extremely to deny reality to keep up that hate that was fostered by RWers, trolls and various others who enjoy ignoring truth, facts, reality and actual LGBTQ organizations to spew hate and lies.
Gee, one quote somehow outweighs the actual body of work, but only for the woman you can't stand, huh? How very interesting.

(2,067 posts)Talking about crawling out of a hole...
Guess Matthew Shepard was born just 20 years too early huh? Stupid him huh?
Unbelievable.
synergie
(1,901 posts)who made that up stated anything that could be twisted into what you created whole cloth.
HRC has never suggested that people be treated as anything other than people, even if you mine your favorite Right wing sources, you still can't come up with anything to suggest otherwise.
Guess you think that you won't be called out on the unbelievable nastiness of what you just said about the Democratic nominee, or the ad hominem you attempted so incompetently against me.
Sorry buddy, but it's pretty stupid to pretend that outright lies and outright attacks won't be pointed out for exactly what they are.
I'm truly sorry you have such disgusting views of the LGBTQ, the people who have been on the front lines fighting for their rights, of people like Matthew Shepard whom you bring up to say some truly disturbing things about.
It truly is unbelievable, and it's also unwelcome here on a Democratic website, please take your frothing hate of people, from the LGBTQ, the Democratic nominee and whatever personal animus you seem to be dealing with due to poor reading comprehension skills, and go back to your cave, or where the frothy radicals gather to spread hate and lies or just Freeperville.
You are unbelievable, as in no one with a functional intelligence believes your attacks have any basis in what I typed.
Run along now, no one is going to give you a pass to lie and attack the nominee and actual liberals just because you're angry, that's what Freeperville is for. Bye now.

(15,224 posts)All very well said, and quite unfortunately (since its now 2016) all true.
Hillary is way beyond qualified for the job and it's been disgusting to watch the idiots trying to tear her down. She has triumphed thus far, and I fully expect that she will be MADAM President!
If that is the case, I expect to take the day off of work and enjoy it. It will be something that I (and my generation) have waited a long time for!

(37,428 posts)...for all the reasons given in the OP. I was never going to get the chance to like her if the MSM had anything to say about it.
Luckily, I don't require MSM likeability in my candidates...but they salted her ground over a period of decadex, and millions of us are consequently neutral or even antipathetic.
