Can We Stop With The "Don't Get Complacent" Threads?

Because they really are useless and meaningless.

Here's the deal: half the country isn't going to vote. A large percentage of the people who will vote aren't even paying attention yet and won't pay attention until after Labor Day. Those who are enthusiastic on either side of the aisle are engaged and will remain engaged - ie: not complacent - until after it's all said and done in November.

So who does that leave to "get complacent?" It leaves the small percentage of voters who are only somewhat paying attention at this time, and those are hardly the people any political party depends on to win elections. If they get complacent, they do it across the board. It's a net sum zero.

There is a downside to the constant harping about not getting complacent, and that is to send the message that people who are currently very enthusiastic about their candidate are somehow going to lose interest and take things for granted to the point that they sit out the election, or stop helping with GOTV efforts, or quit donating. Well, that's not happening on either side - both sides are doing fine with fund raising and the Ds at least are spending money and ramping up GOTV efforts. Our energies are better spent concentrating on the down-ticket races and the historic opportunity that Ds have to take back the Congress than worrying about a non-existent problem.

Threads bother me as they seem to suggest we aren't allowed to feel good or optimistic. Instead we're supposed to quake in fear all the time? I don't think so. We are realistic and know that the only poll that matters is on Election Day.
