(23,339 posts)I may have to pay attention to the lower offices this year.
My state may eliminate the "Straight-ticket" voting option, so I can't just mark the "D" before moving on to the undecipherable proposal section. I'll have to vote "D" for each office individually.

(3,226 posts)Bernie has raised important issues that still need to be addressed. Bernie has been fighting for returning this party to its roots that FDR began. Even though it now seem that he will not be the nominee the movement of a political revolution will continue a movement for social, economic, environmental & political justice that believes our government should work for all people not just the 1%. Bernie's movement will now evolve so that the issues which he has fought for for 40 years will become the hart of this Democratic party.

for those of us who've been here many years. The Groups were good and some loved "The Lounge" and others fought it out in the "I/P" Forum and there was so much Diversity with Photography Groups, Food, Health and so much here where people found Groups they could relate to with common interest goals!
There have been many Wars and Battles. But, in the end people connected with each other and were sad when we lost DU'ers and supported DU'ers having personal, health or financial problems.
COMMUNITY!
It will no longer be that way. Times Change...people grow older and new circumstances and alliances become the norm.
This isn't the America of 2001 when I joined....and "The Future" is out there.
The new rules seem Draconian. And, recent actions against "The Community" and the banning of long time Mods/Contributors, and others, for various reasons, takes its toll for the site ...as surviving as a Community. Maybe in practice they won't be. But for the owners of this site (whose lives have also drastically changed in these 15 years)...it has long since been time to MOVE ON to some other places that are growing from what has gone on in the past.
I understand that. And, I understand that times change and people move on to deal with that change. We wish for community...and, in these times, those communities change rapidly.
Let go The Past.
MrMickeysMom
(20,453 posts)And, if I'm to ever live up to one of the philosophies of a group I used to have fun with (Astrology), I've already realized that everything "passes through". That's what we're doing here.

Thanks!

(2,479 posts)Yep. My contribution today (rant) on Facebook about it.
It's the kind of pissed off you get when you lose a game, when you saw the umpire call someone out whose foot hit the bag so far before the tag, there was no dispute. Not only that, but all the referees and umpires seemed to have it in for your team, calling penalties for any errant touch, as in football, but allowing the other team to practically "ride" receivers down the field. (mixing sports here, but whatever)
When you play a clean game, when you feel you got a fair shake, it's way easier to shake it off and move on to the next one. But those times you got screwed in life, so blatantly and obviously that no one could miss it--well, that's something you never forget. And you don't tend to want to jump on board with the very people who did it to you.
Sad thing is, Hillary could have "probably" won fairly. She might have stuck to the issues she is going to "revert" back to with the inevitable flop. Debbie might have scheduled 20 debates before the first vote, so voters in the South could become acquainted with Sanders. She could have not pulled Sanders voters, and changed their ID's, she could've stopped the purges and made sure when people had stood in line, they were able to vote. She might have made sure the data breach didn't go both ways, that Hillary people didn't steal any data from the NGP VAN. The Democratic Party could have waited until the end to register SDelegates, as to allow the people to choose first, unbiased by whomever was ahead. They could have open primaries, as to not produce such massive confusion.
But they didn't. We got repeated bad calls, we got disrespected. Sanders should write a book, and call it "Running Against a Hurricane," because that is what this whole campaign has been. And we're pissed, righteously pissed, and I for one feel it is quite justified. And if we don't "come around" in time, I blame all the clueless Hillary voters, who knew little to nothing about her record, and who chose to deny any and all electoral manipulation, and who believed every flip that will turn into a flop later.

I joined the Green Party a few days ago and will vote that way from now on, I am tired of the big parties playing games with our lives.
I decided to volunteer for the environment my big passion and just work on that since I am retired and let the political fighting go to the kids.
I just want peace and in my little corner of the world where we voted overwhelmingly for Bernie at least I am surrounded by people who get it.

(458 posts)I totally disagree with the new election season rules, as well as the new jury system procedures that DU is implementing, and there is no way in hell that I could abide by all those draconian rules, which enforce a lock-step type mentality.
I will be at www.discussionist.com, DU's affiliated site. And possibly also at the JPR site, depending upon if they really improve their god-awful forum interface they have now. I guess the recent talk is it will be made to bear more resemblance to DU, and to be more like DU in the interface.
By the way, discussionist is better than you might think, and they won't have all those new restrictive rules for posting either. Just wanted to give it a recommendation to those who are considering other forums. True, you have to deal with right wingers, but it is not nearly as bad as you might think. (19,956 posts)Not just on that disaster that a Trump presidency would mean, but what the result of the Sanders performance WILL mean if they play it right, and stop behaving like children. There is a longer term strategy if they have the temperament to see it. Hillary won because she got more votes and more pledged delegates, but Sanders has a chance to capitalise on his performance but it's clear many of his supporters do not understand that.
Miles Archer
(18,837 posts)...you're right about the big picture. The only way that what Sanders started will go away is that if he, and his supporters, allow that to happen and just give up.
A big part of the problem...which can't be easily compartmentalized into behaving like children...is that in the short term, Clinton simply does not represent what Sanders represents. Saying "it will only be four years"...while I assume her supporters are convinced it will be eight...is not entirely helpful right now when it comes to focusing on "the big picture."
Once again, speaking only for myself, I absolutely understand what we'd get if Trump won.
Clinton's just not my candidate. That's not sour grapes, it's the truth. I see her and I don't see my President.
Yes, there is a lot that Sanders can accomplish in the next four years, with or without Clinton's support. I have no idea what he'll do.
Nor do I have any idea what Clinton will do if she wins, unless I take campaign talk at 100% face value, and I don't.
I just feel that the "best case scenario"...her winning, Trump losing...solves the Trump issue, but that we deserve more.
That's my adult "big picture" view. Not speaking for anyone else, not a "representative" of Sanders or his supporters.

(10,524 posts)It just seemed like, not so long ago, Bernie-ites vastly outnumbered Hillary-ites; but now, not so much.
I'm hoping to see more of you at the other place; it's quieter there than I'd like, too. But maybe a lot of us just needed a breather.
And I don't know about you, but I'm really uncertain about what's going to be permissible under the new rules. Statements of facts about Hillary seem to constitute "Republican talking points" around here, which last I saw will be outlawed.

(15,435 posts)Trying to get through to those who DO NOT want to see or accept causes me too much stress. I don't say this in anger, but this country MUST change and find a way to make REAL CHANGE happen. There's just too much at stake and for months now so many of us have been pleading and trying to get through with our message.
What they don't understand is that this ISN'T about BERNIE himself, it's about what the future of this country is facing.
For me it's so much more serious and dangerous to support the status quo. I fear that our efforts have been scoffed at and laughed at for way too long, but the bottom line for me is this. IT'S about bringing this country back to it's roots and the Party's over and I'm NOT talking about our two Party system!
Those here can continue to ignore what seems to be happening, but my forecast is this. Within the next 5 to 10 years we may very well look back at this point in time and WISH we had taken a different path. For me it's much more serious than all the infighting here, it's about our DEMOCRACY, or what's left of it because I see storm clouds on the horizon.
I may be a OLD BOOMER, but I've seen a learned a few things about history in my 6 decades in America and it's very disturbing to me that we as a country are fracturing. This is not a game or cheer leading for a team, this is about where we're headed.
ENOUGH from me, I KNOW too many here don't understand or care what I have to say.

(19,841 posts)Last straw. Considering becoming an Independent after all these years. If there are no fundamental changes to the system, I won't be participating in elections again period. Totally disgusted by it all.
It wouldn't make sense to come here and lock horns with people since I can't say anything good about Hillary, especially after this so-called primary. This is a well-funded coronation--and that's not Democracy.
So I will not be participating in an active way. Can't support or work for a candidate I don't believe in.
Can't support a sham system any longer. I will only work for candidates with Bernie's platform. Candidates who KNOW something is rotten in Denmark and will actually work to undertake a change of course.
DU has been a good site in the past. And I wish everyone here all the best.

(6,960 posts)reading good reads but otherwise in lurker mode only. I signed on just to respond to this thread but will then sign off.
I was an early DU member joining in early 2001 following the SCOTUS coup of 2000. I felt utterly horrified and sickened by what had happened then and found kindred spirits at DU. I have that same sad, sinking feeling now that HRC has achieved her coronation (it is and was always about her), and cannot fathom how so much of the alleged Democratic electorate can support her given her record and history. But DU is Clinton Central now and it disgusts me just to read most of the thread headings, so I will be leaving... much to the joy of the coronation crowd.

Anyways, I don't plan to vote for the Nominee if it is Clinton and being here for the mass shaming doesn't sound that attractive at this juncture after the sham of a primary that I saw unfold this season. I won't reward douche-baggery.
Peace to all

(1,704 posts)I'm mostly a lurker but DU has been my favorite spot since 2003. I check in several times a day. Now, I'm weaning off/breaking up and I'm not happy about it. I came here to learn what free-thinking, progressive folks had to say. I lived in Florida in 2003 and this was the best place to discuss election fraud. I loved the lively discussion and the openness to entertaining points of view that weren't mainstream. But now, between the trolls and the censorship, this place has begun to feel too dysfunctional. But recently I've become a member of JPR and I'm looking for other news sites as well. Suggestions?
Loki
(3,825 posts)Gee, I didn't know that. I guess I should put the thingy because you can only support Bernie there and no other discussion is allowed. But of course, DU, which I have been a member since 2001 supports Democrats across the spectrum. We even support Bernie, but he won't be our nominee so that makes us unacceptable to some. So be it. Throughout the years, quite a few of my candidates haven't won their primaries, but I dealt with it and moved on. My goal is to make sure Donald Trump and other republicans are not elected to public office. They are unfit to lead, period.

(14,307 posts)I am resigned to voting for Hillary. I don't dislike her; it's just that Bernie's policies were SO much better. Light years ahead. But he was always a long shot.
So barring some major scandal or indictment, I will vote for her or the replacement Democratic candidate. But if there is something that tanks her candidacy, I will jump ship and vote for Sanders/Stein or Stein/Sanders. They are closer to my beliefs, and I say that sadly as a lifelong Democrat. I am dismayed at the anti-worker stances of my party, particularly in trade deals.
