Things really get going after the 7 min. mark...
Dissing MLK, Jessie Jackson, Rev. Wright, favoring McCain over Obama, etc., and her allusion to assassination.
She partially atoned for her actions, but KXL, Big Money, Big Oil, etc. gives me reservations.
I will vote Democratic, no matter who the nominee is, but I struggle now to stay uncommitted.
Who is she really, inside? I don't think anyone of us really knows!

(50,334 posts)I suggested the poster alert Bernie's campaign about the lyrics. I'm 100% positive if that's what the lyrics are and Bernie is made aware of them they won't be played again. You can accuse Bernie of many things, but he's not a bigot.

(146,351 posts)it appeals to the "young people." I doubt anyone in charge of the music selections had even bothered to listen to the lyrics. It's that "hip hop" music "young people" seem to like. That's the way that stuff sort of goes. Still, it's very sad that more attention was not paid to the content of the music.
If this gets a lot of publicity, it's not going to be good news for the Sanders campaign. But, I don't really think that matters any more. There's no longer a path to the nomination for Bernie Sanders. Not even a narrow, dangerous path. It's too bad he's going out this way, though.
thesquanderer
(12,001 posts)From the link:
But things get even stranger than that. Theres live Fox News video of the same event that includes no music whatsoever. (The Fox tape goes mute at one point, but when its not muted there should be music, like there is on the Sanders campaign tape, and there isnt.)
So there are three different videos of the same event. Now, is it possible these are different events in California on the same day, using the same actors and the same backdrop? Yes. But still, this is very strange.
But also to the OP's point: "I don't know how you can support him after this." Seriously? Even IF there was some campaign screwup with offensive song lyrics (which it appears there was NOT), is a supporter really going to stop supporting him as a result? I mean seriously, does ANYONE think that in his heart of heart, Bernie really wants to shoot the gays? This is just silly.

The idea of an elderly, cranky Sanders being heralded with rap music is distracting me, though, away from my core liberal rage.
I know a lot of old men and exactly one who gave it a chance and won't swipe at the radio the instant it comes on. In Sanders' case, it'd be blaring from the time he arrived until his theme music for entering the stage started. And absolutely no sense of humor to help him through it.
Too funny. It's making me wish I'd gone to one of his rallies out of curiosity, but too late now.

(1,290 posts)Smearing black people as homophobic is a common racist canard meant to divide oppressed groups. It's disgusting, false, and it's outrageous that it happens by the 'woke' Hillary supporters that abuse the language of social justice to support their candidate.

CorkySt.Clair
(1,507 posts)We're all aware of his ham handed apology, and the fact that he's been MIA since these lyrics came to light at the end of February.
DemocraticWing
(1,290 posts)But he apologized and he's repeatedly called on people to accept LGBT people for upwards of a decade. I don't forgive this shit easy, I know what it feels like to be called a fag and go home at night and cry myself to sleep because people hate me for what I am. But Killer Mike isn't a homophobe anymore. He's had a lot of work to do to make up for that, and maybe he's not done, but I'll give him (or hell, for that matter Hillary too) credit for doing good works to make up for the bad.
I also recognize that you keep saying "music" in a derisive way, implying that Killer Mike's stuff is not real music. Run the Jewels put out what in my opinion is one of the best rap albums of the last five years though, and if you don't think rap is real music, then it's ridiculous to even discuss this with you.
CorkySt.Clair
(1,507 posts)But I thought you wrote that this was a myth and a dog whistle?

Uponthegears

Hillary has NEVER stood up for a person of color when doing so would make the center right core of the Third Way uncomfortable. Yea, she will stand up for Michael Brown's grieving mother because folks who look like her sympathize with mothers. BUT when it comes to calling out the WHITEWASH in Ferguson, or the right of people to take their anger to the streets, she's all law and order.

(10,164 posts)Multiple indicators that the "NoahTV" version is overdubbed:
* Several people clapping in rhythm...at a different tempo from the song. Not a single person can be seen grooving along to that music, despite it having a powerful, prominent beat.
* Music considerably louder than the crowd noise, something I've never seen at a Sanders rally (countless watched on video, two attended in person).
* The original article the OP cites now contains a FULL event video in which the song never appears.
It's ratfucking, people...and this OP should be deleted.

(58,724 posts)Here's what I think happened:
A young Sanders supporter posted a video to YouTube of Bernie at an event with a song that he likes added in (if you ignore the lyrics, it's actually kind of a cool image of Bernie coming onstage to that beat).
The media got wind of the video and thought that the song was actually played at the event (which, on casually playing the video, is reasonable).
Then the story took off from there.
No one bothered to check to see if the song was actually played at the event (which would have been reporting 101). This, sadly, is the state of the media in this day and age.

Any kind of music that the creator of this new video wants.
I'm sure that pretty much we all know this.
So, counterfeit videos made to discredit the honest record of Bernie Sanders. What else is new?
