When Was the Turning Point?

I don't have cable and I don't watch any MSM shows, so I don't really get much of a sense of what the corporate media is saying and I really don't pay attention to what the Republicans are saying. All I know is that a little over a week ago, the likes of Chuck Todd and Wolf Blitzer were talking about "Romentum" and that the race was a dead heat (even though it clearly wasn't). Even the Romney people seemed upbeat and our good friends at the Free Republic were optimistic. However, the sense I am getting now is that, for the most part, the MSM isn't talking about a tied race and they certainly aren't talking about "Romentum". And I am reading stories about Romney seeming very depressed at campaign stops and average Republican around the internet is screaming into pillows right now.

I know it has to do with Sandy but what was the exact moment we can point to where the media and the republicans realized that Romney has little chance of actually winning? It had to be big because 3 debate wins in a row and surging poll numbers for Obama were in place last week, and none of that shook the republicans or the media. What finally snapped them out of their delusional fantasy? What day was it where we went from "Romentum!" to "the handwriting is on the wall for Romney"?

Though the polls for Obama in the swing states were looking good for about a week or so, the Christie "endorsement" was a dagger in the heart of the Romney campaign.

Remember that Romney's been effectively blacked out of the media for almost a week now.

and the trio of great debates that followed....some great campaigning by Obama, and maybe it was a wake up call to Dems that if a horrible 4 years of RMoney was to be avoided, the ground game had to get cranking.

It was the day before the Hurricane did all the damage. President Obama was already being proactive, not waiting till after the storm hit to move resources to the area. The fact that he acted so superbly Presidential took the wind right out of their sales. Christie embracing Obama during and after the Hurricane pretty much put the icing on their crow cake. Bloomberg endorsing Obama was the clinching third blow.

blatant lie about Jeep moving to China which people were so easily able to see through. They started actually realizing that this man is little more than a habitual liar and they withdrew their lukewarm support.

Or, more seriously, about the time everyone realized Mitt was completely out of his league on the same stage as Obama. It was easy to fence from afar, but the side-by-side comparison is very unequal and obvious to ardent supporters even.

I like others, too, mentioned in this thread. All have been important.

1) Obama's solid whipping of Rmoney in the 3rd debate - Rmoney flip flopped AGAIn on defense sounding like a peacnic..O made look out of touch and pandering for votes in VA with his sinking ship count argument "horses and bayonets"

2) focus on Sandy, away from the bickering to real problems- which Obama handled with class and deft leadership

3) Rmoney sounding small and desperate to capture the limelight back at his "relief" effort rally buying $5000 worth of canned goods that weren't appropriate and clearly staged

4) Christie's effusive praise of Obama's handling of the storm

5) Brownie's absurd statement about Obama acting "too early" to prepare for the storm- reminded folks of the incompetence and profiteering of FEMA under R administrations

6) Storm's clear example of why the FED govt is needed in times of crisis.

7) Rmoney's lies about Chrysler and GM called out by the media and industry as blatantly false and pandering

8) AND the TOPPING, the most important..(because this election is about "jobs" sic) the latest JOBS reports and consumer confidence numbers... uptick enough that made Rmoney's dire outlook sound out of touch with reality. reinforcing the view he's pandering for votes.

Nothing left to make his case....

Because no Republican ever had a chance, at least from that field. Maybe Huntsman or Pawlenty, but they were never seriously considered by the Tea Bagging extremists or the Christian Taliban.

This election has been more like the Pennsylvania polling record than any M$M outlet wants to admit. I saw in on Rachel Maddow, talking to Nate Silver.......there have been 24 polls this year in Pennsylvania IIRC and the best Romney ever did was tie a couple of them. Otherwise, Obama has led all the way in all the rest. Romney never won a single one of them.

ANY of the "too close to call" crap from the media has been just that, crap. They need a close race for ratings purposes. Now, with the election almost here, most are starting to move towards the reality of it all, in an effort to look like they called it right, even though they have been spinning the polls for months.

This election was always Obama's to lose. He's too good of a politician to lose this one.

And frankly, his record is pretty decent considering where he started from and what he's had opposing him the last two years.
