(114,904 posts)Losing site of that is foolish. That applies to many of you Hillary supporters as well as to Bernie supporters.

(146,345 posts)you don't have to vote for Hillary, you've said numerous times. Still, a post that says nothing but the Republican candidate's name is not a Democratic Primary post at all.
Words. They're free on DU.

(146,345 posts)stated in the post, which was referring to the DC Primary on June 14. The OP of this thread mentioned nothing having to do with the primaries at all. Sorry.

(53,475 posts)... to not want Hillary Clinton as our nominee.
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/peter-dreier/bernie-is-mainstream_b_9425348.html
Heres a brief run-down:
Sixty-four percent of Americans strongly or somewhat favor regulating greenhouse gas emissions from power plants, factories and cars and requiring utilities to generate more power from clean low-carbon sources.
...
Ninety-two percent of Americans want a society with far less income disparity than currently exists in the United States. Americans prefer some inequality to perfect equality, according to the professors at the Harvard Business School and Duke University who conducted the survey. But when asked to pick an ideal level of income disparity, Americans prefer the more egalitarian level similar to the one in Sweden (although without identifying the country by name) to that in the U.S. Whats more, the rich and the poor, and Democrats and Republicans, are almost equally likely to choose the Swedish model. For example, 93.5 percent of Democrats and 90.2 percent of Republicans preferred the level of income distribution that exists in Sweden.
...
More than three-quarters of Americans (79 percent) think that wealthy people dont pay their fair share of taxes, while 82 percent believe that some corporations dont pay their fair share of taxes.
...
Over 50 percent of Americans (including one-quarter of Republicans and nearly 80 percent of Democrats) say they support a single-payer Medicare for All approach to health insurance, something Sanders has long advocated. Only 36 percent oppose the idea. 12 percent are neutral.

(45,851 posts)He slaughtered the Republican field without breaking a sweat...
Trump knows a thing or two about some of the less pleasant recesses of the American psyche and he has the M$M on a short leash and a choke collar.
Clinton has to be extremely circumspect about what lines of attack she takes on Trump, she's too vulnerable ethically to really go after him without inviting a devastating counterattack.
Trump is an egotistical blowhard bully that everyone loves to hate but he's not stupid and it's largely an act.

(4,311 posts)Let's assume the media is going to tell a story once these primaries are over and Hillary/Trump is all they have to focus on until November.
They have two choices:
1. They paint Trump as increasingly buffoonish and Hillary as sane and rational. Then if Hillary wins with their support they can all pat each other on the backs for being the adults in the room.
2. They paint Trump as the candidate of the people and Hillary as the candidate of The Man. Then if Trump wins with their support they can all pat each other on the backs for standing up for the little guy.
I genuinely don't know which is more likely, but I know they will tell a story and it will be coordinated. I guess we'll see.

(45,851 posts)Trump is addicted to media attention, the media is addicted to eyeballs and the eyeballs are addicted to the media.
I see Hillary as an addict too, she's addicted to money and power, Trump has some of that too but for him it's more about attention than anything. I kind of think Hillary puts up with the attention to get the money and power while Trump likes it all.

(37,428 posts)It is, however, possible to overestimate all the rubes who might be tempted to vote for him.
Maybe that's the same thing.
Hillary has been around long enough, and also knows Trump well enough, to know what she has to do.
1) Do not respond to him. You lose the moment you do. They might have to respond to a particular thing here or there, but this is his game, pulling you down to his level.
2) Do not get down to his level. You can't be a dick as his game. You saw that in his primary.
3) We now are seeing Elizabeth Warren go after Trump, and Hillary needs a couple of high profile people who have pretty good public standing to do the same. This is VITAL. He is who his, and he WILL respond to attacks. And, when he is responding he has less capacity to drive the discussion. Also, they can get down to his level a bit more, while Hillary can keep the more "presidential" tone to things.
4) Any hits on him form her campaign directly have to be policy or issue related, again, have to steer clear of making it personal.
This is the only way to beat him, and will put the country in a position to choice between a reality TV meglomaniac and someone who has the experience and presence to be the POTUS.
Sadly, it could break either way ...

(4,311 posts)Elizabeth Warren, Bernie Sanders, Barbara Boxer, Nancy Pelosi, Michelle Obama, President Obama. She's got a pretty good stable on hand. I really can't wait to see Obama let loose on Trump. Talk about a bloodbath.
