2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumMy imagination, or has the mood in this forum improved dramatically since just yesterday?
For myself, I'm not going to feel like anything is "in the bag" until election night, but my fear of Romney somehow pulling a win out of current circumstances is subsiding a bit. I was hopeful before anyway, but hopeful is coming much easier today.
I guess the Nate Silver 538 bump is a part of it, a bump that happened even before a bunch of good new swing state polls that should bump things towards Obama even more. Chris Christie speaking well of Obama. Romney being such an ass with his Jeep lies and fake relief efforts that I think he's doing himself more harm with the people who see through his lies and insincerity than doing any good with the few who might buy any of his bullshit.
There's also a good chance of good employment numbers coming out Friday. And there's little time left for any surprises to shift the status quo, a pretty good status quo, before the election.
All in all, pretty hopeful. It's just odd that it's happening in a way that seems almost like a tidal change to me since yesterday.
Maybe that's just me.

I'll let myself have a little more tonight, then all the leftovers go back to the office so as to evenly distribute the remaining excess, empty calories as a shared burden.
Privatize a few tastes, socialize the weight gain, that's what I always say.

(24,728 posts)There's a calm feeling that things are solidifying in our direction.
This country has been looking over and at the abyss since 1980 (Reagan). What's it going to be America: plutocracy and dumbing down and the virtue of selfishness, or listening to our "better angels", as another transformative President said - over 100 years ago.
I'm feeling good right now about the election, while sad about the losses - both material and personal - in Sandy.
I do think Sandy illuminated the stark differences between the Republican value of privatization, over what Pres. Obama has ALWAYS emphasized: pulling together. Over and over he has implored and instructed us to see ourselves as connected, and to motivate us to be the change. This is what an effective community organizer does. They don't leave people to survive on their own, nor do they conduct and direct; they lead by bringing out the best in all of us.
President Obama is going down in history as one of the best Presidents this country has had, during frankly terrible times. I can't wait for his 2nd term!!
