If the superstorm does major damage Obama can actually do something about it

Last edited Sat Oct 27, 2012, 01:55 PM - Edit history (1)

Mitt will criticize him, of course, but Americans will see Obama do what he always does during a violent Mother Nature event.

And with a little luck the states affected will move their voting date forward to when power is restored.

It could happen.

Edited to add: This post is a response to the many posts I've seen about how this storm might affect the voting in a negative way. It is NOT, as seen in the first few responses a politicizing of evil things to favor Obama.

I don't see how that violates any democratic principles.

It's almost saying, "Let's hope something bad happen to a lot of people so that we benefit politically."

Not all that dissimilar from wanting the economy to tank so that Obama looks bad. Nothing that is undemocratic with that. And if you think that Obama's bad, you could rationalize that a crappy economy is good for the Republic.

Far too selfish and narrow-minded for words.

regarding Hurricane Sandy.

Any objections to that?

Or do you think ignoring negative posts is more Democratic?

Standing in storm damage and ordering federal help for the locals.

Seriously, Chris Christie was toast before Hurricane Irene rolled through New Jersey. Polls had him losing to Corey Booker and, if he chose to take a flier into politics, Bruce Springsteen.

Along comes hurricane Irene and Christi,e who'd spent a previous natural disaster, a monster blizzard, at Disney world and was harshly criticized for it while Booker personally dug out cars and brought milk and diapers to constituents, was ready. Even I had to like Christie's yelling "Get the hell off the beach!" as the storm bore down on the shore. In the aftermath he was everywhere doing the bipartisan thing that everyone wants to see their governor or the mayor do.

That, I think more than anything repaired his reputation. So, Mr. President, be out there. Be seen in your shirtsleeves in the situation room taking charge. Hug any Republican governor or mayor until they cry and call them out to their faces if they're not doing the right thing for their people. Avoid the phony photo-ops just make sure people know you're on the job.

THIS IS NOT A DISASTER--THIS IS AN OPPORTUNITY.
