Fox host Greta Van Susteren claimed that recently released State Department emails prove that the Obama administration knew the attack in Benghazi, Libya, was an act of terrorism as it was happening and that it was "ridiculous" for the administration to link the attack to an anti-Islam video. Yet the emails show only that the State Department was aware that an Islamist militia had taken credit for the attack, and other reporting has indicated that the anti-Islam video did, in fact, play a role in the attack.

Nothing contradicts what the WH has already said about this issue. Plus the stories just say that a group claimed responsibility on facebook and it mentions another group also claimed responsibility. There were also reports that it was totally spontaneous and thus these groups might have taken advantage of the confusion to claim responsibility for an attack they didn't do. I'm not sure what conservatives would have wanted? For the WH just to say a certain group actually did the attack, when it wasn't known for certain?

The whole Benghazi tragedy is a bullshit non-issue.

A group of islamist militants used civil unrest to mask a direct strike on the consulate in Benghazi. It worked. For several days afterwords, it was assumed that the whole thing was the actions of a mob, until more evidence came to light that untimately proved otherwise.

Case closed.

But in fact, if you look at the statements made by the White House during the week or so after the attack, their every utterance was always accompanied by the phrase "as far as we know" or "to the best of our knowledge." Until it had the facts, the White House was not being definitive one way or the other.

Obama did EXACTLY what a responsible adult would do -- hold off until all the evidence has been gathered. Don't tip off the militants that we're investigating. Don't shoot first and ask questions later. Only an asshat Republican who wants to score political points off the dead body of Ambassador Christopher Stevens would try to make this an issue, and that's exactly what they're doing.

I read this story this morning and it didn't even raise an eyebrow with me. I actually hope the Republicans focus on this for the next two weeks. It will move the narrative to "foreign affairs" which is the exact debate where Obama took Mitt behind the woodshed.

I think the repubs are fools to dwell on how scary the world is right now-Romney showed he is not up to the job of being commander in chief and people do not trust him on foreign policy. So by talking about Libya over and over it only means people will be scared and won't trust Romney who doesn't know where Syria is, to be in charge.
