(3,666 posts)Nothing about speaking at the meeting. nothing about Sanders being given a platform to talk about 'The Moral Economy."
Did he just make that up?
Did he misunderstand the nature of the invitation?

(8,352 posts)Yes, I am certain Sanders will sit there quietly listening and will never have any opportunities to discuss such topics with other attendees or organizers.
Come on, y'all can't be this stupid, right? It must just be the jealousy that your bought and paid for candidate will be in Hong Kong at that same time doing a high powered $2700.00 minimum per person fund raising.

(23,875 posts)candidates so they can win elections and maybe, just maybe take back the senate and add a few more Democratic seats to congress so whichever candidate gets elected will have a better chance of actually getting some reforms thru. Wish BS would do more fundraising, but he's too wrapped up in his own idolatry.

No parchment paper, no red ribbon, no gold-leaf embossing. It's definitely NOT from the Pope.

(10,345 posts)He said it was his idea to invite Sanders.
A Bloomberg report quoted Margaret Archer, president of the Pontifical Academy of Social Sciences, as saying that Sanders had broken with protocol by failing to contact her office first.
"This is not true and she knows it. I invited him with her consensus," said Sorondo, who is senior to Archer.

(38,437 posts)Neither are these facts:
- Bernie was invited late, after the program had been fully established and distributed. That is, he is not a keynote speaker
- The invitation was solicited on Bernie's behalf; Sanders's presence was not sought by the organizers
- The Pope did not invite Bernie

(14,604 posts)what?
Bernie's going to Vatican City to discuss humanitarian stuff with a bunch of other like minded people.
And this has what to do with his campaign?
Because I'm wondering where you all stand on:
1. Medicare for all Americans
2. Strengthening Social Security by removing the payroll tax cap
3. Overturning Citizens United and similar rulings
4. Taking a leadership stance on mitigating climate change
5. Ensuring big corporations don't hide their money offshore and pay their fair share of taxes
6. Using OUR tax dollars to subsidize state colleges so our children and grandchildren can have free tuition
Because THESE are the issues I'm voting on, and why I support Bernie.
But, alas, instead of addressing these issues, we're looking at some bullshit 'controversy' about the Vatican? Mountains out of molehills.

(50,130 posts)That's what this is about.
The Clintons are on the B or C list of all those who declined to attend their gala.
PatV
(71 posts)A number of high-profile celebrities and figureheads have declined invitations to attend an annual gala hosted by the Clinton Foundation.
REPORT THIS AD
That gathering, dubbed the Clinton Global Initiative, received declines from Pope Francis, Elton John, Mark Zuckerberg, and President Obama, among others. Notably, this was the first time Obama was unable to attend the event since taking office in 2009.
The increase of declines could be attributed to the shaky political ground that Hillary Clinton and the Clinton Foundation current sit on. Clinton and the relationships she had as Secretary of State with countries that donated to her foundation have been called into question following her departure from the State Department.
An event planner for the organization told Politico:
REPORT THIS AD
Theyve had a lot of rejections from people both for membership renewals and speaking roles this year between the campaign, Hillary not being at CGI this year, bad press.
Other big names who declined invitations and speaking parts include Leonardo DiCaprio, Arianna Huffington, Bill de Blasio, and Federal Reserve chairwoman Janet Yellen. German Chancellor Angela Merkel and British Prime Minister David Cameron also told the Clintons no."

They're not the hot ticket couple they used to be and it's killing them and their fan club. And Bill's ready for an assisted-living home. He needs put away somewhere where his mouth won't hurt them anymore.
