Forward to the Past - Romney's campaign underlying theme

When I was young, a game we played was to throw many random things or ideas together and try to find the common denominator among them.

With due respect to "Back to the Future," Romney's common theme is about looking to the past. From woman's issues, which, many commented to be very 50-ish, (go home early cooking dinner) to economics, which is 70-80-ish (monetary policy, trickle down, austerity), military, which is 1917? pre-Pearl Harbor, pre-battle of Coral Sea, pre-battle of Midway, much less "run silent, run deep" strategic nuclear subs for deterrence, and foreign affair with geopolitical 60-ish cold war with Russia, and a world of US domination, projecting US "value" - but value here is not our democracy, the principle of freedom in pursuit of happiness- but about installing valuable guys (dictators, regimes) that are good us, like the Shah or Iran.

So, Romney campaign is all about turn back the clock, get in Doc's Delorean to forward to the glorious past, where there was proper social order, every one was in their proper place, the rich were above the law, ruled others from their perch, and everyone stayed in their strata in the society, sit in their designated seats on a bus...

Ah... the dream is so sweet, isn't it?

Edit: additional note: where are Romney's military advisers??? doesn't anyone tell him that some modern strategists worry that even aircraft carrier is very vulnerable because of asymmetric threat? A single, super-accurate long-range tactical nuclear missile can take out the whole carrier. Long gone are the days of torpedo and dive bombers try to sink each other's carriers. Aircraft carriers are still very crucial in projecting US power in highly asymmetric conflicts (in the gulf wars) but not with emerging rivals like China.

Battleships? with 16-inch guns? they are good for battleship game indeed.

Yeah, I was thinking his campaign motto should be "BACK". nt bemildred Oct 2012 #1
