2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumSomebody help me with this.
I was raised on an East Texas farm and live in a small East Texas farming area. Once in a while I will watch a show on RFD-TV and reminisce about the agrarian life, machinery, and culture. But just now, about 2:20 pm, central daylight savings time, a program caught my eye as I was channel cruising. The program claims to be a documentary; its name is "Hope and Change". I don't live so far under a rock that I was unaware of the existence of the video but I was astounded to find it being aired on RFD-TV.
Can anyone give me information about the "documentary" film maker? Can anyone hazard a guess as to why a basic, down-home, country channel like RFD-TV would air it? (Money, I suppose.)
Anyway, comment to your heart's content. Educate this old man. I'm terribly disappointed in RFD-TV.
What gives?

(34,857 posts)But my guess is that it's due to the fact most rural Americans are anti-Obama and the administrators of the network probably share in that view. It's unfortunate when non-political stations get overly political and essentially endorse candidates.

(342 posts)That's the one. I was suckered into watching the first of it because it made me recall some of the happiest moments of my political life ~ the hope and enthusiasm engendered by and for our new President. Then, as the video began to make the turn, I stared in disbelief at the incongruity of the situation ~ a family channel, a basic, down-to-earth channel, homemade bread channel showing absolute garbage.
I'm not implying that the folks featured in the film are being dishonest in their opinions or that they shouldn't state them. I am upset that there weren't others interviewed that held a contrary opinion. Still, I've grown thick skinned about such as that over the past fifteen or twenty years of seemingly constant exposure to it through "journalism" in the modern era. But what bothers me, sickens me is the venue in which it is shown. The shock I felt might be comparable to sitting with my grandkids and discovering that the Disney Channel had preempted their programming with a porn movie.
I'll get over it. It just take a bit of time to get over being mad, sick, and pissed. It is nice to have cyber-friends to whom I can complain.
