2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumHad a tooth pulled yesterday...
it was a big f'ing molar and I thought the Doc would have to use a winch to get it out, but he did. I am phobic about the dentist and the way I dealt with this yesterday was to imagine that this lousy abscessed tooth, which has caused me immense pain, was Mitt Romney and that I was having him extracted from the national scene. I know that my friends, family and folks here on DU will nod their heads in confirmation that I am truly eccentric BUT my little mind game truly worked. I know this sounds a little crazy but...whatever works, right?

(13,890 posts)folks here on DU can come up with a lot of situations where the thought of Romney works...other than as the president.

Can't afford crowns, even with dental insurance, and I suspect this is becoming the case with a lot of us in the 99%.

(13,890 posts)interesting things that happened when I initially went to my dentist (he sent me to the oral surgeon) is that the people there were telling me that people have stopped going for regular check-ups and are ending up with real problems. We will all be toothless if Romney gets in.

(13,890 posts)straightjacket me for that! I know that my post may have sounded cute and contrived but it really was what I focused my mind on and it worked. I wish you all the best on Monday...I will be thinking of you.

(13,890 posts)focused on myself. I really zoned out on Mitt and it made it mush easier. Also, since we're on to teeth, this oral surgeon was essentially painless. The most stress about this was all in my mind.

(3,073 posts)Mine was a molar as well- and thought I had no pain (the decay was deep in the roots), it's hurting a lot today and yesterday was worse once the Novocaine wore off. Love the way your "romneyized" the experience- happy that it worked for you. For me, it was all about the Vicodin...
