2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumI'm flabbergasted by Rachel Maddow. Last night she spent exactly 10 seconds reporting Bernie winning
in Michigan. No analysis, she just simply said it was an upset. Then she immediately pivots to a recall petition for Snyder. Then a too long historical bit on George Wallace getting shot in 1972 and then winning the Michigan primary with a record turnout. Then a guest talking about how great the GOP turnout this year was. Then some stupid waste of time story about plane noise complaints at Reagan National. That was the whole show. Bernie was only mentioned after 35 minutes at the start of the show about the GOP race and endless stop Trump CRAP. I don't think Hillary's win in Mississippi was even mentioned.
Fucking liberal media.
I'm so incredibly disgusted with her at this point. What a disgrace. What a sell-out.
She's been annoying for a while but usually makes it up with some interesting takes and analysis. But after last night, I'm freaking done with her.

(4,797 posts)Trump's Steak, Wine and Golf Club Infomercial lasted 40 minutes. She can't be expected to cut away from that to discuss something silly like the biggest primary upset in recent history.

(1,357 posts)But I don't think it's Rachel's call on how long they cover Trump's rallies. What she says when they let her speak is on her, but not what they decide to broadcast.

(53,792 posts)This is not new for Maddow. She's been regurgitating 24/7 repug stuff since the purge of all the progressive hosts (of which she used to be one, allegedly) several months ago.

(1,357 posts)and not included in their primary coverage. A little different. And, maybe Rachel is voicing her concerns, just not publicly.
Dunno for sure.

(53,792 posts)IMO it's not that different so I still don't see why Maddow is still there.
With her credentials and smarts she would land on her feet if she left.
She's made tons of money while there.
Guess it's about "principle" though, if you have them.
I remember her on "Air America" and pre-purge MSNBC and never thought she'd ever stay and just be a mouthpiece for 24/7 repugisms.

(5,668 posts)is her viewership will collapse . So she's either going out a winner or a loser. Melissa went out a winner, so people will be speaking of her for alot longer than when Rachel gets canceled for low ratings. and her overlords will still never get the message.

(6,007 posts)Even last night she said that Democratic turnout is LOW. If she had time to say that, she had time to mention that Bernie has broken turnout records in 3 states, as reported by those states. If she had the few seconds to dis him, she would have had time to have mentioned that.

(23,121 posts)I used to make MSNBC my evening watching, but no more. They died the day Comcast bought them out. First it was Keith, then Young Turks, then Ed, then MHP - enough is just damn well enough. So sad to see Rachel morph from crusader to insider, but that's what it looks like for the most part now. I hope she will either leave or become more independent and restore her reputation.

I don't turn tv on. But if I did, the last thing I would expect to hear from it would be liberal ideas.

The BS exception that Fox News carved out when they won their appeal in Florida for deliberately lying was because Fox News is actually "entertainment" and not news needs to be overturned by statute. News should be news with journalist required to fact check their stories like they used to. Call out lies from politicians when they hear them instead of just repeating the lies verbatim and hiding behind "We just reported what they said."

And, now she is part of the Establishment Media that catapults propaganda and attempts to manufacture consent to avoid legitimizing policies and politicians that would rebuild the Middle/Working classes.
Or, she simply sold out for the money.

I am sorry about Rachel. She is smart. She has to know she is doing it. Maybe she is hanging on for after the election. But once you have been controlled as she has been controlled, freedom doesn't come back easily. There is no where for her to go. And I have choices!

(4,775 posts)Ed gets it re Bernie, very much so, we have few better allies. A lot of people on th left are hesitant to properly ascribe bad intent to their fellow Democrats, you could include Bernie himself in that category, and Thom Hartmann. It's a difficult line to walk, calling out establishment corporatism without demonizing those on our side who have gone along to get along.
Personally I am more on your side of this, I have no problem calling out sellouts, but I also know Ed's heart is in the right place re Bernie and the issues Bernie and his supporters care about. Peace.

The Sanders supporters denigrating her for not fawning over Sanders is sad. She's one of the smartest least biased voices on tv. But because she doesn't fawn she said to be like Fox News or a libertarian. The name calling just shows how little of a valid point there is in this thread.

OK, that was after the FIRST primary in Iowa. Now, Bernie has broken records in Kansas, Maine and Michigan. I have emailed her and asked her why she isn't reporting that.
That is clear proof that she is sold out. She refused to give Bernie credit. As a matter of fact, she even said last night that Democratic turnout is down. After Bernie BROKE RECORDS for turnout in 3 states.

(2,062 posts)MSNBC along with NBC and other MSM outlets are totally up trumps ass, and here is my theory why.
The Obama administration has had a successful run. The unemployment is low, job growth over 46 months has been positive, ACA is successful, gay marriage is legal, Social Security is still here, the govt has not confiscated your guns, Obama has not allowed the whitehouse to become a Kenyan Muslim based Mosque..... so the MSM is somewhat perplexed with not having a lot to chew on. With Trump as president, this guy will open the whole nine yards of bullshit this country is going to go through. His racist stance on any group that is not pure white cretin, his total bullshit stance on china, when his suits are made there. His total lack of knowledge pertaining to ANYTHING this country stands for or against, his willingness to take our children into another shitstorm in the middle east.
The MSM are salivating to get Trump in. Mika, Joe Scarborough, Maddow, Matthews, all of them are up his ass. Now notice the ones who are not up Trumps ass. They are the ones who are out... Ed Schultz, Melissa Perry, Sharpton, Obermann, Cenk...... yup .....that my theory
Fast Walker 52

(2,062 posts)well, as long as Matt Lauer give trump free phone calls, Fox brings him on every program they have, CNN cut to HIS rallies ONLY, barely to never a Clinton, or Sanders rally. As long as the MSM refuses to call trump (I refuse to capitalize his name not doing it anymore as my protest) on any of his racist rants, attacks by supporters, etc..... he will reap the rewards, and with the growing hysteria he is building and throwing into these cretins faces, he will win over Clinton and Sanders. Then the shit will hit the fan when all his idiotic supporters find out trump as president is not trump as king, and congress will swallow him whole. My true wish is a democratic senate... if trump does get in, a democratic senate can control all his agenda.... control supreme court noms, Obamacare cuts, etc..... get the senate vote out... help elect the democrats in the senate.

(5,275 posts)Those with pride and convictions have left. My opinion of Rachel and Chris Hayes has gone way, way down. I used to DVR Kornacki on the weekend but no longer.
Again, the good news is that kids and the semi tech savvy of us not so young can find real progressive talk on their TV through Wi-Fi. So I get my takes from Cenk, Thom Hartmann, Papantonio, and if I want more passion Malloy, a little truth seeking.
No need to put up with this now lame network.
