2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumI Am So Proud Of My Candidate, Bernie Sanders Today And of His AMAZING SUPPORTERS!
I am proud because he refused to engage in the same old dirty politics of lying about his opponents and demonstrated that no, you don't have to do that to run an incredible campaign.
His campaign has been the most exhilarating experience of any political campaign I remember.
I am proud that his political ads focused on the American People and not on his Opponents.
Even though from the beginning Hillary's campaign engaged in the same old smear campaigning, Bernie rose above them and so did his supporters.
I am proud that Bernie and his supporters stayed focused on why this election is probably one of the most important in our lifetime.
I am mostly proud that he kept his promise and refused to take secret Corporate Donations and proved that Politicians do not need their bribes in order to run a great campaign.
Because that is the #1 issue that must be resolved before we can even begin to fix anything else.
He has made history, several times, during this campaign.
One of those times was when he refused to TALK ABOUT HIS RELIGIOUS BELIEFS slapping down, finally, the notion that a President of the US must be a Christian! Reminding the Corporate Puppet who asked him about his faith, to remember the Separation of Church and State!
Thank you Bernie Supporters, you are the most amazing people I have ever worked with on a political campaign.
to DUer questionseverything for the reminder of John Lennon who told us he wasn't the only dreamer of a better world. Those photos show we are not either:
Who would have thought in May, 2015 that Bernie Sanders would be in Iowa tonight as a serious challenger to the presumed, inevitable nominee?
But he is, and just that fact alone means that he and we have already won!

(62,325 posts)have a candidate who would not cater to those who are running this country, who make MONEY in Politics a central issue of his/her campaign. But I thought such a person wouldn't make it past the day after they announced.
Bernie has accomplished what I though was just a dream!

(23,867 posts)Today is frustrating for me, and others. But like I've been trying to do lately, there is another side besides just winning.
We learned who we are. We learned about our party. We discovered the voices and faces that have been behind the shadows. I can find light and darkness in this, but thanks to you guys, I'm realizing there is something bigger to aspire to.
Thank you for adding a little bit of sunshine to our lives.

If Bernie had not run in this campaign, I would most likely, like so many others, have ignored the presidential race and focused instead on trying to get some good people into Congress to at least put a stop to whoever was in the WH from pushing more of the Corp agenda that has crushed the working class and buried the poor, in this country.

(7,865 posts)No matter what happens we should be proud of the enthusiasm and energy we have brought. We should be proud of our job of bringing the most important issues of inequality to the front of this campaign and proving to everyone that nothing is inevitable. We can change. We can push forward. We can be real progressives!
I hope we win today but win or not this is only the start!

(62,325 posts)it makes when a religious leader supports the science behind Climate Change, slapping down many in his own flock who deny it even now.
In the UK and Greece, the people also went against the Corps and elected 'left' govts, though the Corps are making it difficult for them too.
If WE were to join the Global trend of rejecting the neo/lib/con policies and the criminals who have profited from them, I think it would make a big difference to those leaders who are trying to fight off the predators.
I remember after the Greek election, Bernie saying 'we need to support this new government' but of course, in light of our own, mostly owned govt, his words fell on deaf ears
Thanks for your comments senz, I always appreciate them.

(62,325 posts)is mostly Conservative. One right in the middle of a field, I couldn't see the house lol. Bernie's message is resonating across the political spectrum, he is uniting the American people after decades of calculated tactics intended to keep us divided.
I haven't seen a campaign like this before. I only hope he has enough time to get his message to everyone, so many still do not know who he is!
MuseRider
(34,108 posts)and all the information and great thoughts about it all. Thank you.
I have been keeping busy, will run out of stuff to do around the time it starts.
I am breathless with anticipation. I do not dare let myself actually feel what I think is very possible tonight. I feel it, I so feel it but I also want it so badly I cannot imagine why everyone else does not want it that badly and I just don't trust my instincts. I have to be calm. I will watch. I will cry either way. I just hope it is with joy. Just #1 in a long string of competitions but we have waited so long for a candidate that we could fully back and was so good at what he does and intends that with us we are this close.
This is for us, what is not to love about that?
sabrina 1
(62,325 posts)I have to remind myself that just weeks ago, Bernie wasn't expected to win Iowa.
And even if he doesn't win this race, it will get him much needed attention so more people will come to know him.
I'm going to watch the coverage on CSpan as I can't watch the corporate media shills telling us what to think, and I'll watch online also.
Thanks for a great post.

Money buys the attention Limbaugh gets. But we are now in a better position to push people like Hartmann on Social Media.
The TYTs eg, probably get more viewers on their Utube channel than many of the Corp Media talking heads on their shows.
I'm kind of glad though that they are still so dismissive of Social Media, they can't figure out how Bernie is getting so popular despite all the efforts they made to ignore him.

(3,813 posts)Now is the time for a real progressive populist movement, but the message needs to be clear and not overly complex and it needs to be repeated over and over to drive it home into the minds of the people.

I've called on the phone banks, I'm getting signatures for delegates and Bernie here in PA, and I reach out to everyone I can. In fact, I'm going to a function for sustainability tonight and will reach out there, too. It's a constant fight. Hillary was shameful tonight, probably lost any chance of getting Bernie supporters to 'unite' as she said, AFTER declaring victory LONG BEFORE the results were in. Then did so again, while the News Media said 'No, it's too close to call'.
Shameful, bullying behavior from her. I like her less and less every time I see her.

If this election is fair, he will win. If not he will still win. But it is really up to us to watch carefully everything that happens because the powerful money interests who actually run things in this country will stop at nothing to stop a real people's candidate.
