Why Clinton came out on top in town hall

(CNN)There's a reason Hillary Clinton is leading her nearest Democratic rival by over 10 percentage points in the latest national polls, and she showed why again at the Iowa Democratic town hall on Monday night. Clinton was in turns humorous, determined, knowledgeable and earnest, leaving no doubt that she has a level of political and public policy expertise that few American politicians can match.

"If it was easy, there wouldn't be any contest," she told a young woman in the course of explaining why so many Republicans seem bent on stopping her at all costs. "I've been on the front lines of change and progress since I was your age."

Clinton even embraced the fact she draws attacks from right-wingers. "They throw all this stuff at me. And I'm still standing," she said, comparing the civility of the night's discussion with the Republican slugfest. "The other side is not talking issues, it's talking insults," she said.

of course, as in all 'predicting', especially something as long-range as pre-season sports prognostications...

it's all a guess...and if it works out...then the outcome becomes 'corrrect'...the guess was only a fact as far as being 'the guess'...

wonder if Nate took any action in Vegas in August...could have made out...

His MLB and NBA predictions are pretty good, too...

I can give specific examples where the "old hands" said he was crazy and he turned out to be right.

They aren't guesses in the true sense of the word. He builds model that take into consideration the performance of the players, the teams, and the schedule.

He is clearly past his expiration date though...

I forgot what team it was but there was a MLB team coming off a World Series championship and Nate's model predicted they would 74 games ? the next year and the "old hands" laughed at him. Well, they won 74 games.

I am a huge Miami Heat fan. Nate's model showed the 012-013 Spurs and the Heat were so closely matched it was nearly impossible to pick a winner and that's how the championship series played out.

In 2008 she started at third base and watched Obama, who had to start at the begining, pass her and defeat her.

This time, she started between third base and home plate and is on the verge of being lapped by a year old Jewish white guy, who had to start from the dugout.

Don't underestimate her ability to pull defeat from the jaws of victory.

Erm, no.

That "front lines" thing sounds good, but is flatly contradicted by the fact that just 12 years ago she was gving authoritative speeches to the senate about "the sacred foundation of marriage is between a man and a woman"

It all always boils down to some variation of "vote for Hillary because she's Hillary"

Because obviously, Hillary cannot run on the issues.

Debates are her bag and she's a whiz-bang preparer who loves to strategize and that's why she's aced all four or at least the 3 that I watched. She's great with quick answers and knocking the stuffing out of her opponents. Forums leave her too much time to ad lib and go off-script though she stayed focused last night.

Personally I thought the whole thing was designed to give Bernie a leg up as he went first and didn't have to worry about getting flattened by Hillary. And the questions were pretty lightweight. And he did really well. But I'm happy to concede that Hillary took home another trophy!

Hillary is way behind in New Hampshire and roughly tied in Iowa and suddenly a Town Hall pops up. Then she spends half an hour yelling at the audience and avoiding questions. By the end of the next business day we have a non-sanctioned debate scheduled and Hillary has already agreed to do it so long as the other candidates do. It was even suggested that the DNC would sanction it.

The pattern is clear.

the wording of the question could lead to either a yes or no answer, both of which could be meant as a positive
