Related: About this forumWhat bothers me about the Pope
Is that when he makes a statement it's now "You agree with the Pope" not "The pope is on the right side on this issue" or "He's saying what we've been saying" It's presented like he said it in some revolutionary way and we agree with him, not that he actually is with us on some issues.
I don't know if that's articulated properly, but it's the same issue with the Pauls, they aren't wrong on a couple issues, that doesn't mean we agree with them and should embrace and work closely with them when we know hoe dead wrong they are on other issues and are just going to use us as photo ops "Look, they Liberals/Atheists agree with me!"

(13,485 posts)that trite statements made by this pope are basic knowledge to most of us, yet are accepted with "Oooo Ahhhhh" "atta boy pope". It's not like his vast and expansive offerings are original. They're more like elementary philosophizing in my book.

(28,151 posts)the haves and the have-nots. The have-nots have so much common ground, it's unbelievable to me how effectively divided we have been. We are always busy focusing on differences.
Missing the forest for the trees.
Frankly I am glad there is anyone on the damn world stage today who says word fucking one about the miserable poor. I count myself among the working poor and it saddens me to see everyone squabbling over this and that difference while the poor get weaker, poorer, hungrier, more desperate.
Damn sad.

(18,219 posts)There is a strange thing happening with agreement with the Pope opposed to him just agreeing with us.
But I am glad that he is saying the things that we have been saying. I do not agree with all of his positions, but it is refreshing to hear a Pope stand up for the poor or show some humility. I will not be one of the people who will wholesale dismiss him just because he is a religious figure. What he says does matter.
