Priests ordered to read criticism

http://www.dispatch.com/content/stories/national_world/2012/11/01/priests-ordered-to-read-criticism.html

CHICAGO — Joining the chorus of Roman Catholic clergy in Illinois criticizing President Barack Obama before next week’s election, Peoria Bishop Daniel Jenky ordered priests to read a letter to parishioners on Sunday, explaining that politicians who support abortion rights also reject Jesus.

“By virtue of your vow of obedience to me as your Bishop, I require that this letter be personally read by each celebrating priest at each Weekend Mass,” Jenky wrote in a letter circulated to clergy in the Catholic Diocese of Peoria.

In the letter, Jenky cautions parishioners that Obama and a majority of U.S. senators will not reconsider the mandate that would require employers, including religious groups, to provide free birth-control coverage in their health-care plans.“This assault upon our religious freedom is simply without precedent in the American political and legal system,” Jenky wrote.

...

“Again, I am not telling you which party or which candidates to vote for or against,” he said. “ But I am saying that you need to think and pray very carefully about your vote, because a vote for a candidate who promotes actions or behaviors that are intrinsically evil and gravely sinful makes you morally complicit and places the eternal salvation of your own soul in serious jeopardy.”

He's not telling you how to vote, he's just telling you that you're going to hell if you vote for Democrats. See the distinction?

And to think there are Democrats who still give their time and money to this horrific institution.

A lot of Catholics plan to vote for the President and they know it isn't a sin. The bishop is a fool.

They'll sit there and put money in the collection plate, like they always have. Telling themselves that these men they give money to aren't "really" the church and that they'll fix the church from within. And nothing changes.

But most will not. They will continue to attend and to donate money despite disagreeing with the priest.

Some guy with a funny hat who has sworn not to have sex with anyone, telling large number of peoples how to make their reproductive choices.

Yes, indeed, this Bishop is missing the innate contradiction here.

He says that voting for a pro-choice politician is morally equivalent to being one of the crowd who wanted Jesus dead. And you'll go to hell for it.

Note that the "Again, I am not telling you which party or which candidates to vote for or against" came from another bishop who did at least say "There are many positive and beneficial planks in the Democratic Party Platform" as well as damn it for being pro-choice. This one is not saying anything positive about Democrats. He's whining about 'religious liberty', and lying (a grave sin, itself) when he says HHS requires Catholic institutions to fund abortion.

I've got no use for the RCC. Its quite beyond me why anybody would support it. But I respect those that do if they do so for the right reasons.
