Dallas County prosecutors had said that a decision not to indict Manziel called a no bill would be announced Thursday but a formal indictment would come Monday.
The 2012 Heisman Trophy winner is accused of kidnapping, hitting and threatening to kill an ex-girlfriend, Colleen Crowley, earlier this year.
Dallas police referred a Class A misdemeanor domestic violence assault case to a grand jury instead of making an arrest. Typically, Dallas Countys grand juries hear only felony cases.
