(4,528 posts)if you really analyze it he missed the pressure putt and pressure drive. Knocking in the 60 footer is no pressure and a lot of luck. no one blames you for missing it but missing a 6-8 footer on 17 are the ones you have to make. Then he jerked his drive on 18. On any other course that is out of bounds.
He also walked off the wrong amount on the pitch on 18. He said it was 88 yards and the announcers said it was 102. He came up 10 yards short on his approach and rolled back in to the valley of sin.
I think he relies too much on his putter. Yes he is the best at st 15- 20 feet but a hot putter can only last so long.He is a very good player and does many things well but if you look closely he chicken wings his pitches. Rory is a better talent and Jordan is a better mind.
Also i'm sure Brandon shampoo was very disappointed because he so wants anyone to take anything they can from Tiger. He hates that black fellow.

(65,010 posts)There are big time swing doctors who actually TEACH people (really good players) to chicken wing the part swing pitches.
Tends to encourage a shallower plane and helps leave the club partially open at impact giving a higher softer flight. That's why you CAN'T chicken wing the full swing because the outside in swing path and open release will cause a slice. On 3/4 swing with a deep faced club like a GW or SW, the velocity is too low and the back spin rate too high to allow for much left to right ball movement. It will definitely start to the right of the aiming point, but won't fade much.
There are plenty of other guys on tour who have that same move, Wilt.
I'll agree on Rory. He generates much more clubhead speed and with his hand-eye coordination, squares the club very consistently despite being at 120+ mph with his driver.
At the same time, i really like Spieth's composure.

(4,528 posts)he actually chicken wings regular swings. He has a really good mind but everything has to be on. He has little room for error.

(65,010 posts)Yeah, him and the other 25 million of us who play golf! LOL!
I shot 72 on Sunday, but on a normal day 3 shots would have been worse and it would have been a 76 to 78. Every mistake adds more than one shot for almost all of us.

(4,528 posts)I was thinking of coming out and playing some of the courses out there. I just don't practice enough. I'm about an 18. I play once a week and no practice. I have my moments. good putter and good short game when i practice. I still walk at the age of 63 in hilly hot Atlanta. Of course I ride my bike 4 times a week.
What i meant is Speith is very good but I don't think he will be transcending.

(65,010 posts)Not Denver. I'm playing to a 3.5 this year (half stroke worse than last year, but nothing to cry about).
I play on weekends and don't practice anymore. I did when i played competitively and was a plus handicap, but it's just a game, so i don't take it all that seriously any longer.
I'm 59 so i can't hit the ball out of my own shadow compared to 10 or 15 years ago, but i still hit it really straight and my only glaring weakness is fairway woods. (My playing buddy OWNS the fairway woods. I hit everything better than he does except 3 and 5 wood. He's terrific with those.)
One fun fact: Although for years i was a plus handicap (between +3 and +5), last year i did something i never did before. I shot even par by parring all 18 holes! I hit 14 greens, but couldn't make a birdie. Then got up and down 4 out of 4. I TRULY played the course in par!

(4,528 posts)and her dad was an excellent golfer as is her brother.I have played the Rob Roy 9 before which is in Mt. prospect and a coupe of other courses. My brother in law(also a good golfer) lived in Inverness. Her dad played Medinah and kemper.
I took my son to a really good teacher(UGA MVP of the golf team in '95). He can hit it a mile but he doesn't love it so he rarely plays. He loves his guitar.
Funny that you mention that parring thing. Her brother did the same exact thing when i played with him. He is a great iron player.
Have you played lake Forest on he southside? Which is your regular course?

(65,010 posts)I live the southern fringes of Chicagoland. Advantage to me is that the farther south you go, the cheaper golf gets. I belong to a club, but it's still a public course. Just that i only have to pay $525 a year for unlimited play. I ride most of the time (MS fatigues my legs carrying the bag), and that's only $5 for 9, or $10 for the whole day.
I played Medinah in (i think) '92. It was the Monday after the U.S. Senior Open. Greens were still running a 14, at least. Downhill putts were like trying to make it down a flight of stairs. Of course, 23 years ago, i was 40 yards longer and i wasn't blind in one eye (again the MS) so i putted better. Except for one hole where i hooked it into the woods and the forecaddy found it (but in jail), i played in 2 under. But, i doubled that whole, so shot even par. Couldn't do that today. Too long.
BTW: I'm a guitar player too. Played keyboards and guitar in bands for more than a quarter century. Tell your son to stick with it!
