(56,177 posts)Picked him to win before the tournament started...most of the other ESPN "experts" went with Rafroid...anyway, interesting to me that two women are more knowledgable about the men's game.
They also both picked Serena.

(32,056 posts)this article doesn't seem to be dated but I remembered the story running on the ATP's website when the tournament started - http://atpchampionstour.com/news248.html. I think he's the only male commentator who picked him.

(77,078 posts)...... Patrick (let me mention Andy Roddick somehow) McEnroe is sometimes tolerable; I like Chris Evert for the most part but she can be nitpicky and strident sometimes; Mike Tirico is fine as the studio host; Chris Fowler is pompous and states the obvious; If Brad Gilbert and Pam Shriver got trapped in the London Eye forever, I wouldn't shed a tear; nothing remarkably good or bad about Mary Jo; and Darren Cahill is fine, except that I think he feels that because he's on an American network, he feels obligated to kiss the American players' butts and not criticize them like he really should be doing.
John McEnroe is the only person who I feel is being completely honest and not pandering most of the time. For example, after Roddick's loss, Brad Gilbert said that Andy needs to go back to being aggressive and unleashing the forehand to compete with the top players, and John McEnroe quickly interjected with, "I don't know that he can do that anymore." Refreshing honesty.
He's not bothering me like he was in the past, but he's still not my favorite. I saw him at this tennis club I belonged to back in the 1980's...he never lifted his eyes when he was talking to people...I thought, God, is he unhappy.

(32,056 posts)my lord he was obnoxious. But, yeah, he knows tennis. lol @ Brad Gilbert and Pam Shriver locked in the London Eye forever - they can also take Justin Gimelstob with them.

(56,177 posts)Close, but it will definitely hold up for a few weeks as none of the top players are playing anywhere until the Olympics...I think the players get points for the Olympics this time, so that should be interesting. Also, Djoker won the Rogers Cup last year, the US Open, and also was runner-up at another tournament...he has LOTS of points to defend.

(77,078 posts)......I never thought he'd get back to #1. Pretty remarkable.
Rafa dropped big time in points. He and Nole have lots of points to defend. Roger could very well end the year at No. 1.

(56,177 posts)Rafa and Djoker made the final...towards the end of the year Roger turned it on, so he might lose some there...read that for the past 9 years or so whoever won Wimbledon (men) finished the year at #1.
