Winter all my Life

Last edited Thu Jan 1, 2015, 12:33 PM - Edit history (1)

January 1st, I woke up in my twenties
can't seem to escape the blue vein of Winter
I was born tangled in it, torn by it
the past a dry stick in the garden
I step on taking out the trash
as it crunches under my feet

Born to the wrong father, on the wrong side
in the wrong season, for no apparent reason
and maybe in the wrong country
and for certain at the wrong time.
Was this ever meant to be - and why?

I wish it could be ten years from now
yet I don’t want to be older
And there’s no guarantee that “life”
would be any better then
Everywhere I turn, all my favorites are gone
If it ever made me smile once, it’s dead.

Went up to Marin Headlands in December
thought I died and went to Heaven
but had to go back East
to that stormy swamp of Redneck Riviera
Winter’s not over yet
It has me imprisoned by a capitalist Wall
inescapable now, if ever at all

Mom once told me when she remarried:
you can go with us down South
or you can go live with your Dad

Two bad choices is not a chance.
Finally, I can only hope for Spring in Winter
when I die - because it seems like
it’s been Winter all my Life.
