There is so much I want to say but saying it would likely violate the Terms Of Services. I will say it was a pusillanimous thing to do.
What a utterly pathetic person the sender is.
P.S. All edits were the result of my trying to post the poison missive without revealing bravenak's personal information. The person who mailed it to her should be ashamed of himself .

Hillary supporters and Bernie supporters should be able to talk with one another without all the crazy ugliness. Yes, Bernie has a great record, but there's no reason to shove it in people's face. As a Bernie Sanders supporter, I find it embarrassing as disheartening when other individual supporters say things they really shouldn't.
Are there GoP infiltrators as some have suggested? Could it be trolls trying to incite infighting among all the Dems here? Are some supporters perhaps a little too emotionally wrapped up in supporting their candidate? I couldn't say for sure.
All I really can say for sure is we have a lot of very smart, passionate people on this site... some support Hillary, some support Bernie... and I'd like to think we're all mature enough to be able to dial back some of the hostility and keep in mind that we're all Dems here. We don't have to agree on everything... but there's certainly no need to be so antagonistic.
Most here seem to agree on some basic things; We want to protect each other and other people. We want to eliminate injustice, wherever it rears it's ugly head. We want a fair shake at life, free from fear. We want to see our country move a good deal away from being politically right-of-center. We are connected through those desires.
We should embrace those connections!

(3,813 posts)And if I post this, it is in no way meant to harass you, just stating some history.
Bernie cut his political teeth on civil rights issues, in 1961 he was a chapter leader at the University of Chicago in the Congress of Racial Equality, the civil rights group that organized the Freedom Rides, he helped to launch a sit-in at the University of Chicago President's Office over housing discrimination in the university owned apartment buildings.
He hasn't been late to black issues, he was way early.
But I fully support you and your position, that's what were all about here.
JustAnotherGen
(31,828 posts)But . . .
All O'Malley has to say on the debate stage -
"My opponents have great ideas - but here's how I did it!:
*Legalized Same Sex Marriage
*Enacted Strict Gun Control Laws - so strict he offended Beretta and they moved out of state.
*Repealed the death penalty in MD
*He signed a law that allows people in the country illegally to get drivers licenses.
*He defied the Democratic Party leadership last summer on the child 'new Americans' crossing the border.
*Raised the minimum wage to $10.10 an hour
*He left office with Maryland having the highest median household income in America.
*Education Week magazine ranked Marylands K-12 schools #1 in America for five straight years.
http://www.marylandeducators.org/press/maryland-schools-rank-1-five-years-row-0
*The Pew Center ranked Maryland one of the top three states for upward economic mobility.
http://www.pewtrusts.org/en/multimedia/data-visualizations/2012/economic-mobility-of-the-states
*Look up the words 'Flush Tax' - they funded an upgrade to wastewater treatment plants.
*1 Million acres of open space preserved
*MD cut their infant mortality rate by 21% under his watch - the goal was 10%
The thing is - a friend of mine - we went to high school together - another black American woman moved down there (to Baltimore) at the turn of the century. She's seen the positive impact on the black community she serves in her work on a daily basis and is a HUGE HUGE O'Malley Supporter.
Every Single One Of Those things helps black Americans in the HERE and NOW. In our lives. In our TIMES. Today.
She turned me to him - and away from my hopes that Biden would run. Now Biden is in the same place as Clinton, O'Malley' and Sanders.
He's got experience, knowledge, know how, grit- and I can relate to him.

Divisive group attack on Sanders supporters. This kind of behavior is not helping.
You served on a randomly-selected Jury of DU members which reviewed this post. The review was completed at Thu Sep 10, 2015, 11:33 AM, and the Jury voted 3-4 to LEAVE IT.

Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #2 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: This is the truth.
Juror #3 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: Broad-brush insult of DU members
Juror #4 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #5 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: This letter looks like RW troll material. Blaming all Bernie supporters is divisive....it serves no purpose.

(8,175 posts)Did you ever stop to think that the alerts happened because a few posters really are pushing the limits of "acceptability" and the people who tend to be alerters are always ready and watching for this. Why aren't they alerting on other posters?
It's not because other posters have posted things they disagree with, but because other posters are not "pushing the limits".
I like 1strongblackman (and bravenak), and am not an alerter...and am dismayed that so many people do seem to be alert stalkers...but that is just who they are, and they will go after the most viable target...meaning they will go after those who push the limits.
I wish alerts and juries were not even happening here. But those who get alerted on often, are usually getting alerted on for a reason. Not necessarily a justifiable reason (as is proven by all the alerts that don't result in a hide).
I just don't think it's fair to say that this is happening because of "Bernie supporters". I think Hillary supporters tend to alert stalk too. It's just something that happens when there is a schism on the board.
And some people are just insecure or judgemental enough that they need to alert on anything that upsets them.
Chemisse
(30,813 posts)"It's just something that happens when there is a schism on the board."
I came to DU just after Obama was elected, but the schism from the Obama/Clinton primaries is still talked about now. It was that bad.
Right now, both sides are being ridiculous. When the primary is over, the bitterness here will be palpable, and will sour DU right through the general election.
I think everybody should tone it down. It should never get so bad here that someone is inspired to hunt down a DUer's address and send them threatening mail. It should never get so bad that some people believe they are being 'silenced'.
In my opinion, the appropriate response to this situation is to lower the tension here. Blaming Bernie supporters for this is just cranking it up yet another notch.
Chemisse
(30,813 posts)There are a number of ways this creep could be tracked down.
But in the future, disabling 'alert packs' would be a good idea, perhaps by putting a limit on alerts. Jurors could be better selected as well. For starters, anyone who comments on the poster rather than the post should be taken out of the jury pool.

(7,395 posts)I'm trying to avoid the Ultras altogether. Some of Bernie's supporters seem to be harnessing their own mental illness to his star, and the weird vitriol they spew at anyone who can't immediately prove that they 1) hate Hillary or 2) don't worship Bernie as much as they do is frankly bizarre and utterly counterproductive.
I listened to every Randi Rhodes interview with Bernie Sanders ever recorded, and I truly dig the guy. I will probably vote for him, although I want to see the debates before I mark that box. Yet to some Bernie supporters, that statement is proof that I am a lying demon Hillary-lover. Freaking stupid, asinine behavior, and Bernie would be the first to tell them so.
It reminds me of the guy who loves Pink Floyd so much more than anyone, you can't even possibly understand how much more he loves Pink Floyd than anyone, so much so that if you listen to him for more than sixty seconds it'll ruin Pink Floyd for you.
For awhile. Okay, that's not a good analogy. Nothing could ruin Pink Floyd for me. But you get the idea.

(11,833 posts)That's how I feel as well.
In this situation it's like, hey that's fine we both like Pink Floyd. Just stop trying to make me hate on some other musician that I happen to like too.

(1,615 posts)but then so do the white ex suburban kids telling them off.
I spoke to someone briefly who was actually there and she said that it wasn't as bad as the mainstream press made it out to be, which sounds about right.
I assume that his fanbois and girls were annoyed because they have some stake in his success and didn't want blm ruining his image.
not that that excuses threatening letters, wtf.
all this twitter drama has become really stupid tho. some of the people I used to follow now spend all their time addressing trolls. tweeted to one of them asking her to stop responding to racist bigots and got 20 angry messages from supporters asking me if I liked dead black people, etc. there's no reasoning with that. afterwards her troll posse started tagging me in posts insulting her I guess figuring I'd be a willing ally for team Bigot.... holy crap what a shitstorm
the thing is I think blm has the public on their side. bernie got a standing ovation when he decried cop violence at a rally in my white new england state. why do they feel they have to rush a stage? surely there are smarter tactics which don't also lead to critical pieces in the washington post.

Bravenak, I'm so sorry this happened to you. But after the harassment and intimidation that you suffered here, after the way they persecuted you until they finally got you banned...I can't say I'm surprised.

(27,787 posts)If you want to Alert on some one ... make it public.
HIDES are public. Make the Alerts public too.
cascadiance
(19,537 posts)... for a certain time period, and beyond that number, perhaps either they aren't allowed any more, or perhaps we can have that user have a certain icon displayed on their DU posts indicating that they have issued a high number of alerts, so that we can see who's doing the alerting, even if we don't necessarily see which posts they are alerting on, etc. and if people stay within quotas, so that hopefully if they have a legitimate reason for alerting on people it isn't something affecting their public perceived profile then.
Maybe that would make people more judicious about how many alerts they issue and who they do it to, and dial it back so that it puts in place a disincentive to doing "alert stalking", but allows for some degree of alerts when they are needed and appropriate.
Even though I'm a Bernie supporter, I support bravenak and her not having to deal with this absolute crap that someone is doing to her! No one should have to deal with that stuff here!
Just please everyone, watch out for making broadly brushed generalized statements on any group of us here on DU. If it is found out that this person was a RW troll masquerading as a Bernie supporter, that would expose how others can use this kind of behavior against all of us. If we are all careful not to make broad statements against people we perceive in "the other camp", perhaps we can have rational statements on what we as a party want from a leader in 2016, which will allow us all to unite behind one that gets voted in as the nominee later, and hopefully be universal in our demands to that person that they support issues that a majority of us come to support if we can have thoughtful conversations on such topics instead of partisan "wars".

Mr. Citizen however, attacks from shadows. I would prefer to stand on him or, at least, one of his appendages.
Perhaps he views himself as some sort of discussion board sniper; verbally "firing" once or twice to destroy opposition. I don't see him as some surgical solder in the weeds. More akin to unnoticed dog shit while walking in the park. Not only is his message fecal, the smell gets on things and must be scrubbed off.

Censoring her on DU wasn't enough.. this creep had to let her know that when she comes back she's will be censored Again.. if she doesn't keep her opinions to herself.
Mr Citizen is a fucking coward.. so afraid of a Black Woman.. that he sends an anonymous threatening letter to her HOUSE! How fucked up is that?!
"We grew tired of your race baiting bullshit against the only candidate who actually cares about the plight of minorities and the 99%. You and your fucking lying "I really like Bernie" bullshit. So you got 4 hides in one day. You deserved more.
When you come off suspension, you keep running your fucking mouth, guaranteed you're going to get alerted on and suspended again. We'll make a point of it. There's a hell of a lot more of us than of you. So I suggest you dial it back a whole fucking bunch.

If there's anything to take comfort in, it's the fact that, being a Sanders supporter, he's relatively unlikely to own firearms.

(2,382 posts)... for an alert against a post in support of Bravenak. I, too, support Bravenak. I also support Bernie Sanders, and people of color, and I do not believe that the lowlife that targeted Bravenak is really a Sanders supporter. I think he is a troll. (14,576 posts)We saw this kind of thing recently in Occupy, and it stretches back all the way through the women's movement, the civil rights movement, the anti-war movement, and the labor movement. The establishment hates it when there's someone or some group that's challenging them, because they never give up anything unless forced. So, they practice what used to be called COINTELPRO - basically then infiltrate the group and lead them toward violence or unlawful behavior so they can be crushed.
But I question the 'we.' This horrible stalker 'mr. citizen' says, "We'll make it a point to..."
But I'll say this - as a Bernie supporter, no one on here has EVER come to me and said, "Hey, let's 'get' so and so through lots of alerts, etc." Because if they did, I'd tell them to fuck off. Last time I looked we were all free to have whatever opinions we will.
The thing that worries me is this jerk actually FOUND out who another member is. I'm thinking I'm gonna clean up my profile for a bit more anonymity and suggest all do same.
And, I'm very sorry this happened. It's awful.

(4,748 posts)Stupid on so many levels. It is not bravenak's style to back down in a disagreement and I'm certain she will not back down this time either. Seems to me to be more of a provocation, a rather dim witted and pathetic attempt. How did the letter writer find bravenak's real name and address? Seems to be the key to this.
