I cant believe the crap I get anytime I start a thread about race.

I am lecturing white people not to pretend they are experts on Black issues, while I talk about Black issues

And I get the irony, believe me, but I always try and present them in such a way that I am asking a question, knowing who will respond like an asshole racist and who will assure me I am right, the two sides of the spectrum.

I wonder what the Gay folks would do if they received this level of push-back on DU, as a MAJOR supporter of Gay rights, I am glad it is not as bad for them/us.

It seems that way anyway, maybe they get the same amount of shit, I dont know for sure.

BTW, I am not Gay, but I identify as part of the community and I do that for reasons of support.

Hell, I just bought these

and these

I am quite certain women get the same crap, because I have seen it. It's rarely directed toward me, but then I am not in the clique so maybe I get a pass or maybe it's because I don't do identity philosophy very much. I am a bit of a rainbow person so I tend to look at the big picture, I know there are a lot of people who are the victims of bigotry and seeing people deny that is infuriating. But, I am not going to play one's group is getting victimized more than another even though I am pretty sure at least one group is getting victimized more, the point is no one should be oppressed. I don't want to play degrees of oppression, lets help the most vulnerable first of course. But, lets not forget other people who also need help.

for the treatment of Gay people, although I am straight.

for the treatment of Women, although I am a man.

for the treatment of Black people, although i am white

I think my biggest gripe is sometimes I seem to be way more upset than most others and most others need to be as upset as I am.

And have better things to do.

When I was young, I cared. I tried to make a difference. I'm now at a point in my life where I'm just trying to take care of "my own". I let younger people fight the fight, and accept that the fight might not get fought until something horrible happens, like Charleston.

I consider this "normal". Young people fight. It has always been this way.

"BTW, I am not Gay, but I identify as part of the community and I do that for reasons of support."

So... you're pretending to be an expert on gay issues while not being gay? Isn't that what you're calling white people out for doing?

I just did a quick two year search (may 2013) and you've not posted back here before.

There's a right way to approach people and a wrong way - randy is a very active member in the AA Group -

And taking a pugnacious approach isn't helping you to make your point with him or your audience.

or black women.

There's a lot of racism and sexism in the LGBT community. (My father is a black and gay and we talk about the racism in the LGBT community all the time. By the same token, I have friends who are black lesbians who complain about the racism and sexism that exists in that same community.) This is one of the reasons why there's a separate Black Gay Pride.

from black patrons. and i can't tell you how many times i've heard white gay men whine about a club being "too dark" meaning there were too many black people there. all of this in the supposed mecca for gay people, so you can only imagine what it is like in other places. some white gay people like to pretend they are evolved about race, even if they aren't. they believe that get a pass because they are gay, or because they had a black lover once.

component.

The (black) women's movement. The (black) gay rights movement. I just learned that there is even a Black Disabled Veterans movement. And all of these have been broken down by other racial and religious minorities as well.

Because we've all seen that when it comes to the majority, the individual concerns and unique challenges of minorities will often be overlooked, ignored or dismissed flat out. We got to look after ourselves.

and a lot of other things.

When I join race discussions, I usually have more questions than answers.

For example, in the Rachel Dolezal kerfuffle, I was a lot more interested in what black folks had to say about her than white folks or even my own opinion.
